Bruce To Join Leicester City
Bruce To Join Leicester City
Saturday, 30th Jan 2010 19:26

TWTD understands that Town central defender Alex Bruce is set to sign for Leicester City on loan until the end of the season. Bruce has rarely been involved in the first team since picking up an injury in the defeat to Newcastle in late September.

The Irish international signed a new contract in the summer aimed at extending his stay until 2011.

Earlier in the season Bruce was briefly Town captain but lost the armband in his spell out injured.

Not needed at the moment, might as well go on loan.

Fair enough, but why can we never sell anyone?! It would be nice to get a few pounds in to put towards a much needed striker.

Quite - why not sell him rather than loan him, or do we have a recall clause in case we need defensive cover?

Well said Mark and Radlett Blue! But as always a it would be an undisclosed fee!!!!

Hardly anyone has any money to spend at the moment and most clubs are looking to reduce costs/cut debt so loan deals are pretty much the norm.

A whole-hearted and committed player but the way Delaney and McAuley are playing and with Balkestein (Tommy Smith also could come back if needed) in reserve, it will be good for Alex to go out on loan. However, Leicester have a good defensive record and he may find it hard to dislodge Jack Hobbs and Wayne Brown from the first team there too. Whatever happens, I wish Alex well.

Disappointed personally. Surely he would be decent cover if McAuley or Delaney got injured / suspended? Pim is simply not good enough. Terrible again today.

NOOO I love Brucey!! As long as this is a loan rather than a loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer I am happy!

im sorry, did i misrea something here, did some of you actually say....'why dont we just sell bruce'? are you out of your mind?! Bruce is half of the heqrt and soul of this club, ok he cant gee in the team atm but hes a legde and the best cover if we needed a substitute defender!!!!!!!!! Not impressed if keano sends out brucey on loan or for a permanennt deal for that matter!

ChambersM - A club legend? What has Bruce done to earn that status? Club legends are those who've shaped the club's history? Or moved the club in an onwards or positive direction; Crawford, Beattie, Mauran, Tjisan, Cooper, Butcher, Wark .. Even lesser players but equally commited such as Geddis, Mills, Stockwell(!).... I could list a hundred names before I even get close to Bruce. He's an average Championship player. No worth, no potential, he can sit on the bench and play for the reserves, filling in when needed, but if he thinks his occasional full blooded tackle compensates for his hopeless positional sense and complete inability to read a game, then more fool him, and most of the pre-pubescent North Stand. He'll play the first two games at Leicester, then they'll realise he's nothing special.

Good news. Bruce is one of those whole-hearted players who is just not good enough to take the club forward. When Keane started by dropping Macaulay and DWright and giving Bruce the captaincy, my heart sank. He is finally sorting out the wheat from the chaff. Not too late, hopefully.

agree with blue balls certainly no legend not good enough to take us to the prem .keano has got a bigger job to do than most fans give him credit for, build this year and go for it next.

Hopefully the plan is to get Bruce off the payroll so we can afford to get a decent striker

He's had far too long at this club. Once he dithered over a contract, that was time to say good bye. Either he wanted to play for us or he didn't - he obviously didn't. Not good enough and never has been. I have been consistent in my opinion of Bruce, a below average centre half and an absolute joke at RB. This is good for the club - get rid of the deadwood - loan, sell, whatever - get them off the wage bill because Bruce adds nothing to our club whatsoever.

Making this guy captain was the worst ever decision... not fit to play 1st XI I'm afraid, never miond captain.

He is a clown and won't be missed. Those on here that think he is a legend... I can name 10 Ipswich centre halves who may or may not be regarded as legends - all of whom were better players than Bruce.

Whole hearted player, you can't drop delaney or mcauley as they have been playing very well, and rather see him playing than sitting on the bench.

thank you wickets, if it was the same situation again i woud be praying for keano to sign him up because hes quaility and loves the club

Hopefully leicester will play him. I think this is a good move for alex and ipswich. The reserve league is a complete waste of time. The opposition is poor and the games are infrequent. I presume there would be a recall notice in case of injuries as well.

Never rated him! but what does it say about RK's judgement only a few months back he made him captain

i'm surprised that Leicester are after him as he hasn't really done much this season. As others have mentioned Bruce is a very wholehearted player but there are better centre-halves and right backs at the club than him. Good luck Alex

Phew...he's useless - lets hope he has the same impact on their defence as he had on ours.
