Town Swoop for Healy in Addition to Murphy
Town Swoop for Healy in Addition to Murphy
Monday, 1st Feb 2010 15:43

Town are hoping to complete the loan signing of not just Daryl Murphy from Sunderland, but also his team-mate David Healy before today's 5pm deadline. Talks are continuing this afternoon with the club looking to complete the loan signing of both players until the end of the season.

Like Murphy, Healy has been consistently linked with the Blues in the past, particularly during fellow Northern Irishman Jim Magilton’s spell as boss.

Killyleagh-born Healy started his career with Manchester United, during which time he spent spells on loan at Port Vale and Preston, eventually signing on full-time with the Lilywhites in 2001.

After a loan spell at Norwich, Healy moved on to Leeds and then Fulham, before then Sunderland boss Roy Keane paid the Cottagers £1.2 million for his services in August 2008.

The frontman, who has never replicated his Northern Ireland form of 35 goals in 78 games at club level, has made only three starts - none in the league - and 18 sub appearance since joining the Black Cats, scoring just three goals.

The 30-year-old is contracted to Sunderland until the summer of 2011.

Smashed it if true, could really see a ruin put together with these two, Healy is a known finisher.

Happy days - Healey is quality & can make a huge difference at this level. He will need to get match fit & I only hope RK gives both of them a proper chance. No more chopping & changing. The season is dead anyway.

Brilliant ! I have been waiting for the whole transfer window for Healy's name to be mentioned and been amazed it hadn't. Finally with an hour to go we hear he's on the agenda.

Murphy i could take or leave (Although my Sun'lun supporting mates reckon he is a pretty decent player at Championship level), but Healy would be a great signing. Just what we need. There are so few naturaql finishers around these day and within our possible reach the only 2 names were Healy or Kevin Phillips. I'd have taken either but Phillips is 37 this year, Healy is 30.

Stead and Healy up front please !

SOOOOO hope this goes through !!
