Keane: We Missed Out on Deadline Target
Keane: We Missed Out on Deadline Target
Wednesday, 3rd Feb 2010 12:04

Boss Roy Keane says he missed out on one of his targets when the transfer window closed on Monday. The Irishman says he will continue to look for additions to his squad on loan once the emergency window opens next week.

Keane told the club site: "We tried for one more signing on deadline day. We were close but it didn't quite happen for us.

"It's about getting the balance of the squad right and I think there is one area that we really need to strengthen.

"We will keep looking and when the loan window opens again, we will have another look. I'd like to bring in another one or two more if we can.

"They need to be players who want to come and play at this football club though. If they are not sure they want to come when we talk to them then it won't happen."

Left-back and, since Alex Bruce’s departure on loan, the right side of central defence appear to be the areas of the side most in need of strengthening, while Keane may look at bringing in another keeper with Brian Murphy on his way back from an ankle problem and Richard Wright out for at least the next month with his knee injury.

Elsewhere, former Town striker Antonio Murray has joined Cambridge United from Chelmsford City, while ex-academy midfielder Ian Nimmo has switched from Brechin to Arbroath.

Jabberjackson - As much as your picture does or doesnt resemble Keano, don't you think it's a tad offensive?

As for signings, we could be top of the prem & have kaka & ronaldo on the books & the Keane bashers still wouldn't be happy. If they don't like him, they don't like him, their minds are made up.
Big 2 years ahead for the club - hopefully we can lose some of these negative fans during that time.

nthstd - we only have 4 loan players in our team

As others have said before, we are not an attractive proposition for many players at the moment - due to our position, hovering above the drop zone. Players may be prepared to come on loan only, knowing that they can return to their home clubs at the end of the season, if (God forbid) we are relegated.

We have a squad which should be good enough to finish mid-table. Given where we are now, I'd settle for that.

Loanees don't always go home at the end of the season. I expect Rosenior will sign a permanent deal, and I'd guess that Roy is hoping that he can buy Healy or Murphy in the summer. Colback is the only loanee that we have that will definitely be heading off at the end of the season.

If the players - whether loanees or not - don't work hard & do the right thing in training & in games, they'll not last too long with RK. I reckon Healy & Murphy both have something to prove, so will play their hearts out, and I've not noticed Rosenior or Colback slacking.

nthstd - I seem to recall that Gio was a loan player.......

Loan players are a short-term solution - and that is what we need in order to avoid the drop.

I agree that, ideally, we wouldn't use loans at all, but it ain't an ideal world my friend....

maximoalex, are you really offended?
it's just a picture of some bloke from the middle east, but just for you I'll change it...
I'd hate you to be offended in any way shape or form
and as for you Peter Morris, take your blinkers off, I can actually remember watching Pete Morris on a regular basis, and i can't imagine he would ever be so rude!

No not personally - but I doubt the guys executed last week & due to be executed this week would see the funny side. I appreciate that you would change it though. See, Ipswich fans can get along!

nthstd - The scum are a bad example (as always!), it all depends on the quality of loan players.

jabber - Glad you've changed the picture to something i can realte to. And glad you've stopped jabbering on about The Scum.

Diesel wouldn't have been so rude as me - he played for The Scum before us, but I expect you know that as well.

I like the loan system. We had a look at Stern John and handed him back. How would you feel if we had paid good money for him?

Re this extra player. I heard that it was John Terry, who wants to get away from the spotlight for a bit (did you notice the double entendre there?) I wonder if there is some truth in the rumour because the sheep in the field opposite are looking nervous.

i heard it was robbie fowler but he would,nt come cause town use the wrong type of paint on the field markings.seems that keane was,not willing to chat with the boss about a change because they have,nt been speaking since a small "incedent"that happened when roy and family were around the bosses house for a xmas party ,roys dogs and a expensive carpet were the reason for the fallout.it also seems that fowler has a fear short irishmen holding dogs on a leash, this is from a very reliable source who is is in the media business

Thought all our loan signings were emergency signings , but what the heck an ''emergency ermergency '' loanee still to come wont hurt, .

The way things are going generally not just Town , teams will be made up of loan players, with all teams loosing true identity,.
