Upson Penalty Wins Reserves Derby
Upson Penalty Wins Reserves Derby
Wednesday, 10th Feb 2010 16:19

An Ed Upson penalty just before half-time gave Town’s reserves a deserved 1-0 derby victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road. The midfielder, recently out with glandular fever, netted after Reggie Lambe had been fouled inside the area by Canaries keeper Declan Rudd.

In heavy snow and with a yellow ball in use, the Blues, with Lambe as the lone frontman ahead of Upson playing between the midfield and the attack, were the better side throughout but couldn’t turn their superiority into more than the single goal.

That goal came after Bermudian international Lambe was felled by Rudd, who was lucky to get away with only a yellow card before being beaten by Upson.

Town’s best performers were Alan Quinn and left-back Shane O’Connor, who is continuing to impress after his long spell out with a knee ligament injury.

Both Brian Murphy and Devann Yao made their first public appearances for the reserves, the keeper having a relatively quiet game.

American Yao put in a lively, battling and impressive shift, first on the left of midfield and later up front. It was easy to see why manager Roy Keane, who watched today’s game, offered the 19-year-old his contract until the end of the season.

Reserves: B Murphy, D Wright, O'Connor, Cawley (Hyam 69), Eastman, Ainsley, Edwards, Quinn, Lambe, Upson (Clark 78), Yao. Unused: Thatcher, McLoughlin, Griffiths.

Thanks to Andy Pearl.

Great to beat the budgies.
Best bit of news tho, RK was there to see it.
Bring on Yao against the static P'boro defence and see what develops.
Go on RK give him a go

Very excited about Yao. I agree with injuredanimal, whack him on the bench against Peterboro.

i think we will end up seeing Yao soon for a bit of boom boom on the wing but he has had a gashed leg and stuff so one or two more good reserve performances me think.

I dont think Yao sounds like a mamby pamby Blunight. He will be on the bench and I hope quinn will start instead of norris or garvan.

instead of norric or garvan, you crazy?

No. We would have won last night had he been playing. He is so underrated despite always putting in a quality shift when asked. For me he is the pit bull terrier to win the ball for leadbitter to distribute and they have always played well together.

Roy REALLY loves football doesn't he! At the game today and went to all of the Youth teams Cup games, including travelling on a mini bus all the way to Tranmere. What ever people say about the guy, he clearly takes his job very seriously. Can't fault his committment.

no Legoman i don't see it to be honest lol...Norris was all over them... Leadbitter wins the balls... and Norris scored the opener...
Quinn might be worth a punt on the left as its very much an open postion no one has been special enough out there to keep it... But although Quinn might work hard his passing and crosses never really amount to much.
A hardworking player who has allways seemed to make an effort and has his heart in the game yes but anyone can make an effort we need effort and tallent

I disagree. Quinn is better in centre and winning the ball, even seemingly lost causes is what makes good teams great and he does that.

jas0999-have you read Keano's autobiography? It is a great read, you really get to know his mindset and attitude towards the game, especially his incredible passion to win.

Im sorry but Quinn is not better at winning the ball in the middle than Leadbitter and even if he was its no good if he cant do anything with it once he has it

What are some of u on about......Quinn is not a good player, should have been first out the door.....slow, weak, can't head, can't pass. Never been good enough.

I'd try Quinn on the left, I was at QPR and am quite liking this Norris/Leadbitter partnership. I thought the Colback/Peters fullback experiment went ok, they were easily chipped but scampered about and helped out the attack.

Murphy looks to be the confident hold up man we're after, Healy looks off the pace a bit. Counago either needs a run of games or a loan, he looks out of sort.

Man of the match though was McAuley - man mountain, superb. Walters had an off night, not surprising after injury.
