Season Ticket Prices Frozen
Season Ticket Prices Frozen
Saturday, 27th Feb 2010 07:00

Town have frozen season ticket prices for 2010/11 at the same level as this year. The Blues are again offering an eight-month interest free payment scheme and the Premiership Cashback offer is included for supporters who renew before the April 10th early bird deadline.

An adult seat in the lower tiers of the Sir Bobby Robson or South stands will cost £368 before the early bird deadline for current season ticket holders, £392 to non-season ticket holders prior to the deadline and £465 to any purchasers after April 10th.

The Premiership Cashback offer would see all fans renewing before the early bird deadline receive a 50% rebate on the cost of their 2010/11 season ticket if the Blues reach the Premier League during that season.

The eight-month interest free direct debit scheme with payments made between May and December was introduced last season and was adopted by 60% of the club’s 15,950 season ticket holders during 2009/10. The total number of season ticket holders was 600 up on the previous season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says Town remain determined to return to the top flight: “The club remains absolutely committed to winning promotion to the Premier League at the earliest opportunity; an aspiration that I know is shared by all our loyal supporters.

“We are extending our Premiership Cashback for another season and I hope that we will be able to reward the commitment of season ticket holders by rebating 50% of 2010/11 season ticket revenue, about £2.5 million, when we achieve our goal.”

Clegg says season ticket pricing is just one aspect of managing the club’s overall finances: “In the context of looking at these prices I have a responsibility to this club, to the fans and to the owner to ensure that we are managing this club in a responsible fashion.

“You’ve got to get that balance right. That’s the big dilemma in football, the balance between investing to drive and race for the dream, but also managing the situation in a responsible manner financially.”

Clegg says that despite Town making a £10 million loss last season, there is no culture of waste at Portman Road: “I can assure you that every penny counts at this club. There are no excesses, there is no extravagance at this club. I’m not sure we’d even be building an office like this if I was moving into a shell of an office in April last year.

“We’re very, very careful with our money. Marcus Evans is careful with his money. I have a responsibility to ensure that his money that I’m spending here over and above the money we generate is spent in a careful and focused way.”

The chief executive says it’s sad to see Portsmouth enter administration but hopes their situation serves as a warning to other sides: “It’s never good to see clubs go into administration like Portsmouth have today, it’s another sad day for football.

“But in some respects, looking in the longer term, it may be that this may make a couple of people sit up and realise that the current situation is not sustainable indefinitely.

“Clubs have a fiscal responsibility to manage themselves appropriately and no one would ever forgive me if I took this club into the position it was in not so many years ago.”

Clegg admits that on the field this season has been very much below par: “We’re disappointed within ourselves, within the playing staff, within the manager and within the management structure in terms of what we’ve achieved so far.

“But we’ve still got the best part of a third of the season ahead of us. We recognise that it’s very tight and three points against Bristol City will be extremely helpful in terms of further moving us up the table.

“It’s always been a long-term goal. It’s never been about promotion this particular season, it’s been about putting in the building blocks which will take us back to the promised land at the earliest opportunity and I think we’ve made quite a lot of progress since the beginning of the season.”

The club have made no changes to the concessions offered this season or to the Silver and Gold Clubs, while matchday prices have not yet been set and are still under consideration. Season ticket packs will be sent out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.

Full details of season ticket pricing is on the club site here.

Happy to pay an average of £16 per match in Lower North Stand.

I expected a reduction due to the poor quality football that has been on display - knew it would never happen.. the club know that 90% will renew and I will be one of them along with Mrs. Tractorgirls... - no holiday this year then..!

and what about the vastly overpriced matchday tickets?

I agree with ozzydog's comments about the matchday tickets. This is a particular bugbear of mine, because I think we should be aiming to increase attendances and build up the fan base even more. Those of us who can't get to the matches on a regular basis and therefore don't buy season tickets have to pay over £30 a match on top of all the travel costs. Surely it would be more sensible to lower the cost for non-season ticket holders as well and attract bigger crowds? Our neighbours up the road always have a full house, but I doubt that would be the case with our ticket prices. (I have to salute them on their support, though.) I can get to see a top Swedish Premier League match for about a third of the price of a Town ticket.

Get real!
The prices are way too high for what is on offer! Also the prospect of Premier League football diminishes by the week so the 'carrot' is worth nothing.

Most of us in here would be renewing their ST anyway - thats what "supporters" .

So whilst it's a major under achievement this season and a massive disappointment , I am looking forward to next year now ...and will be renewing my ST to watch the lads in Blue !

50% refund on 2010/11 prices. which will come in handy when the club bumps season ticket prices up if we go up.

nice of clegg to add that the supporters share the club's aim of promotion. really? do we? i thought perhaps the club would share the fan's aim... not the the other way round.

all well and good them trying to put spin on season tickets but how about making a concerted effort to fill the ground with reasonably priced tickets *across the board*? matchday tickets at £30 is scandalous.

I shall be renewing. Would be rude not to and whilst finances allow i always will. Will be interested to compare the prices to other teams as we do seem to have been one of the more expensive clubs. Also notice there's nothing about cuts if we were to get relegated this season? I know thats the worst case scenario but it still would be a gesture from the club to show how much they have underachieved this season

Where is it £368 a season ticket? I pay £505 in the north upper and £168 for my boy. But he is going to be 16 in October, so his will go up to £505. I'm gonna find it hard to justify paying out that sort of money next season.

very sad me thinks,
it was the perfect opportunity to stagger the intrest free payments for twelve months not eight and it could be done on a rolling direct debit with a chance to opt out just like car insurance its a complete no-no for me im sad to say because its not just me but my wife and two kids (who are above the u11 cap) and also add another £30 for travel.as for the 50% rebate its a complete nonsense because if we go up they will just double the price so you will then pay the same again!!

I think the gap between people renewing and new applicants has dropped (about £20 now) so that is good.

I totally agree about match day prices - they need to be reduced!! I pay under £21-a-match with my season ticket, but a seat on the day can be £35. Let's get these prices down and get some more supporters into the ground.

i think its time to get more bums on seats, its clear to see we have not improved our gate numbers over the last few years,we must offer deals for less attractive games to encourage the occassional supporter to part with their money, but in doing so not to undermine the core season ticket holders, there must be a way!

Have been a season ticket holder for several years now and i pay £940 for me and my son whos of adult age. Its not easy for me to find that kind of money, but each season I do and get to enjoy quality time with him. Maybe looking at NSL is the answer. A reduction on ALL ticket prices would have been great and would probably be cancelled out financially by attracting bigger crowds, WHICH WOULD ADD TO THE ATMOSPHERE!

I don't have a season ticket, as I have to work most Saturdays. So on a match by match basis, with petrol and everything else it Costs me £50.00 per match !! Lower the price and fill the ground!
