Leadbitter Only Has Himself to Blame
Leadbitter Only Has Himself to Blame
Sunday, 7th Mar 2010 09:37

Boss Roy Keane says midfielder Grant Leadbitter is the only one to blame for his ban for the next two matches after picking up his 10th yellow card of the season at Blackpool. On Friday, Keane revealed that he had spoken to the former Sunderland man regarding the number of cards he had picked up for dissent.

After Leadbitter's card at Bloomfield Road, Keane told the club site: "Grant has picked up some silly bookings for dissent and he's only got himself to blame. He's an important player for us but he's out and we have to get on with it."

Leadbitter's absence could see Jack Colback return to the centre of the midfield, while Owen Garvan could also come into the Town manager's thoughts.

Okay, Roy, he has been a bit silly but he has been a huge player for us this season so let it lie. Maybe a couple of games rest will do him the world of good and he will come back refreshed and ready for the fight.

I agree with Bluecynic. This may be a blessing in disguise for us. It will give Grant a rest and make him able to compete at the top of his game for the rather ridiculously busy run-in. We'll no doubt miss him in these 2 games, he has been our standout player by far this season, but once he's back hopefully we'll pick up some wins and move up the table.

I hope Garvan will just slot right into Leadbitter's position for the next two matches.

I agree with arc, I really think what the team could be missing is Garvan's smart passing from the midfield.

Agree with Roy - he's absolutely right to slate his players for picking up bookings for dissent - it's not acceptable and sets a very bad examplePersonally I believe Garvan could come in and do a job. He has two games to shine now and it's in his hands - if he fails to deliver then he will only have himself to blame.

Leadbitter is incredibly overrated by a lot of people.
He is a decent championship player and he'll never be more than that.
Garvan & Colback are better players and none of them are moaners like Leadbitter.

Leadbitter is probably the only player Keane has bought in who has been good value. Would be good for him to weigh in with a few goals though.

NSL - What are you talking about,, Delaney was brought in by Keane and he has been an absolute rock since partnering Mcauley at CB. Also is Colback not any good either because i would quite happily see him back next season also. How about Liam Rosenior because for me he has been a very good loanee for us too with some very sturdy performances at full back. Daryl Murphy - He got 3 goals in 3 matches when he came and now just can't get the service to him so he's another one we should sign up next season. Arran Lee Barret? He was quality in goal for us before Brian Murphy came in, admittedly he made a few mistakes towards the end but some of the saves he made to keep us in matches were incredible. The only players Keano has brought in who maybe haven't performed for us are Priskin, Martin and Edwards. Other than that you are completely wrong.

Careful Alex - voices of reason often get shot down by the keyboard warriors on here

I don't think we need a manager, it's all the players fault

leadbitter will be missed for sure his creative play helps us alot. Although i think garvan is more than capable than filling the playmaker position in the middle.

L'bitter has looked tired and not at his best the last few matches and hasn't been rested (and he should have been IMO). He's got himself rested now... back stronger for the ongoing RELEGATION BATTLE.

Although hes been v good for us, this isn't overly bad news. Keane seems to like playing these similar hardworking players like leadbitter and Norris and colback. So maybe this will be a blessing and force him to change it a bit.
Not to mention the fact that someone else will HAVE to take set pieces now.

being bollocked by Keane for dissent is a bit like being called ugly by a frog!!!

I have the feeling that Alan Quinn might get a start along with Pabs

I agree with Stinkius i dont think this will be a bad thing give him a rest and change the way our midfield plays and especially the set pieces . Get Garvan and Counago in and play it on the floor more , Garvan has the second highest assists for us in 10 starts .
Keane will probably put Quinn in though because he runs around more

3 goals, three assists, 130 pathetic corners, two dozen pitiful freekicks. Some on here feel we will miss him for two games. Are the expectations of our players so low this season that many champion him as actually being quite good? It says alot about Norris, Walters and Edwards that he will not let them do anything with dead ball.
Over rated especially by himself and the manager.
Heres to two home games with some creativity in mid-field!

At least he's getting his ban over with straight away, rather that than pussyfooting around the pitch trying to avoid it before the cut-off day, which would be virtually impossible given his role.
You need more than the same 11 good men to get promotion, so this is a chance for some of the backups to prove their worth. Colback can move to the centre or we have passing options with Garvan or dogged displays by the underrated Quinner to fill the gap. We have a big squad, let's use it.

thats right keep slateing the players so that they want to play even less,in my opinion grant is now as frustrated as the rest of the squad and now doesnt want to play either, can you blame him???? It seems keano always brings up these things before and then they still happen!!!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!
OUT OUT OUT,I have a good feeling hell be gone after tonight anyway.
