Wickham Nets for England
Wickham Nets for England
Sunday, 28th Mar 2010 00:01

Striker Connor Wickham was on target for England’s U17s as they beat Sweden 4-0 in their opening European Championships elite qualifying group game at Northampton’s Sixfields on Saturday afternoon.

Wickham turned on the edge of the area and hit a left-foot shot into the corner of the Swedish net to put England in front in the 21st minute.

It was the 16-year-old’s fifth England U17 goal in his eighth game at that level. England next take on Malta at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on Monday and Slovakia, again at Northampton, on Thursday.

Manager Roy Keane says he is “fairly confident” that Wickham will sign his first professional contract with the Blues when he returns from international duty with his 17th birthday on Wednesday.

Brilliant Connor, I am so pleased for you and sincerely hope that you sign for us this week, you have proved to everyone that Roy Keane was 100% correct in playing you regularly, he obviously has a good eye for a potential star, congratulations to both yourself and Roy.

keano doesn't play youngsters though does he, i know, it's been one of the sticks the morons like to bash keane with on here, he's not playing Shane either, it's all an illusion caused by our rose tinted spectacles

Well done Connor...
PS...Confident that he will sign a contract this week with us , dismissing all this bull about players not wanting to play for Keane.

Depressed I hope he does sign, because if he doesn't you have left yourself open to all sorts of abuse. Chickens, eggs, hatched, before.

depressed, it doesnt dismiss it at all, i honestly dont think someone so young as wickham cares about who he is playing under, i reckon all he wants to do is play, which is fair enough. But i think older players like McAuley (seeing as he fell out with keane earlier) dont like playing for him because they dont repect him.

ChambersM..Of course he cares who he plays under what a stupid thing to say. He, his agent and parents are well aware of other clubs interest in him but have ackowledged that he will benefit more from continuing his development with ipswich.
Reference McAuley would you not agree that he is having his best season since joining town...Blowing your theory out of the water!
