Clegg: I'm Still Backing Keane
Clegg: I'm Still Backing Keane
Monday, 29th Mar 2010 09:00

Chief executive Simon Clegg has insisted that manager Roy Keane still has his backing despite continuing speculation that the Blues boss is set to lose his job. Several reports this morning claim Keane will be dismissed as soon as this week.

Clegg said: “I'm still fully committed to Roy Keane. It has been a disappointing season, but Roy is still building his team.

“I understand there have been some speculation stories, but Roy is just starting out to get us where we want to be.”

Meanwhile, speculation regarding Keane and the Celtic job vacated by Tony Mowbray last week also continues in this morning’s papers.

The media trying to make the news rather than reporting it, again!

who cares what Clegg thinks, he says nothing about ME thoughts, leaving all options open. He always makes the point to mention ME normally.

Wally - did you have to mention the 'D' word? We've had enough of those already thank you.

I do hope the Chief Exec is true to his word. We need to stick with the BEST manager in the league. And he is young. Stick with him. He'll come good for us.

im a keane fan, but 'best manager in the league'!?! Thats funny and a bit silly. I reckon he gets til the end of the day. Vote of confidence is never good.

Starting to get us where we want to be?
Mid-table mediocrity - slightly worse than when he took over

Interesting that he says 'I' and not 'we'

Inevitable that SC should make this kind of statement following the press speculation re RK's position. If he kept quiet, then people would interpret that as 'lack of support from the board'.

Anyway, it's ME who will decide RK's fate, not SC.

Let's stick with him for the time being..

For all his faults....
a) he has tightened up the defence which is better than it has been for years and that's in front of a goalie that hasn't really been tested ..

b) we create lots of chances, just can't get them in..

c) after the first 15 games, our form has been good..

If we had some pace somehwere in the side we might do OK..

Nothing again Curbishley, he did a good job for Charlton but a bit of a anodyne personality maybe?

Keano13, your obviously a scummer posting on the this site as only a Naaarwich fan would think that KeanE is the BEST manager! I dare say that it was based on having no knowledge of what a manager should be able to do, unfortunately in Keanes case so far, very little!!!
Having just sent my season ticket renewal off in the post, I for one would be glad to see the back and have something better to look forward to next year than we have seen this year, which has been the worst football I have seen at PR since Duncan or McGiven.

Well said Mr Clegg, it is good to see the Club continues with the tradition of backing a new manager. Rest assured if Clegg has said this in publice, Evans has authorised it.

The blindness of football fans is amazing. You wouldnt accept the rubbish service/goods/entertainment, you have been served up by ITFC for the hundreds of pounds you pay each year, from any other supplier of goods and services. Yes it is a business, and you are not getting value for money under the current administration and the only way a business gets that message is when you withdraw your patronage. Blind faith, lack of ctiticism and absence of judgement can never be good for our team or any other supplier. Before you ask, i first went to Portman Road in 1959.

ITFC1985 - yes, Magilton got a vote of confidence and more time to sort things out. Keane has that security (I hope) and should be looking to shape his side for next season now.

Another win or two and we should start tying up the likes of Murphy and Rosenior on new deals and offloading the dead wood to build the first team to start next season.

Nothing story, obligatory response to the gutter press speculation. This is not the first time Roy has had a "vote of confidence", they are largely meaningless.

Changing managers every year would be a disastrous policy for the club. The temporary boost in season ticket sales which follow a new manager being appointed is more than offset by instability, and insecurity for players. A new manager comes in, sooner or later has a bad run, media will start speculating, the players feel insecure, and the club end up like QPR, and all the other clubs changing managers and going nowhere. The poor form and results early in the season can be attributed to that disruption. Any half decent manager deserves 3-4 years.

RK has shown he can hold his nerve and help dig the club out of a bad situation when a lot of his critics said he would walk. The team is now showing play off form consistently for the past 20 games or so. He equally held his nerve and kept Sunderland in the Premiership, he did spend money there, but it was on championship players on comparatively low wages and with little or no Premiership experience.
Of course he has made some mistakes in the transfer market, all managers do (even alex ferguson- Djemba, Veron, Smith, etc), but even the bad buys (Martin - ex man utd, Priskin- a regular international) are young, have pedigree and could come good (see how long it has taken Nani and Berbatov for Utd). Though maybe RK needs to keep faith with some of those players, like he has rightly done with Wickham.
