Clegg Reiterates Support for Keane
Clegg Reiterates Support for Keane
Monday, 29th Mar 2010 19:09

Chief executive Simon Clegg has reiterated his support for manager Roy Keane in the wake of the widespread reports of his imminent sacking. Clegg says there is no truth in claims that Keane and owner Marcus Evans have fallen out.

Clegg told the club site: "I'm aware of the media speculation around Roy but the club's stance is the same as it has always been. We remain fully behind the manager and he will be in charge as usual against Reading on Saturday.

"Some of the stories I have seen over the weekend are complete rubbish, like talk of Roy and Marcus falling out and not talking to each other.

"Marcus travels the world with his business commitments and speaks to Roy as and when they need to, but it's part of my job to liaise with the manager and we meet or talk two or three times a week, every week.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the season we have had so far and no one is more disappointed than Roy.

"Clearly results have to improve but everyone at Ipswich Town is fully focused on achieving that."

gypo - harsh, yet fair. The sooner people give Roy the same support they gave Jim in his first two seasons as manager the better. Roy needs TIME. Time that was given to Jim.

Great News! Keano will get us promoted next year as we are clearly hard to beat given the number of draws. Lets sign Chopra in the summer to fire us to the Premier League!

well said gypo most of the people on here who want keane probally dont even go any more. And people need to stop going on about as being a good family club and have a history thats all in the past we havent had a good team for nearlly ten years keane has got to be given another season. For god sake that magilton was given nearlly 3 years. We have a solid back 5 now all we need is a good striker and pacey winger and we will be there.

Of course it is all sweetness and light between ME, Clegg and Keane...how else will it drive Celtic to paying a nice bit of compo for Keane, solving ME's dilemma and giving the whinning majority what they want......

For those saying that Keane needs TIME, presumably you also mean MORE MONEY? Are you saying Keane can get us promoted by wheeling and dealing, and if so where is the evidence of that? Or do you mean that Marcus Evans has to hand him more multi-millions like he has to date? My worry is that Keane's signings have been such poor value for money - Martin, Priskin and Edwards alone probably cost us about £10M with transfer fees and wages over their contracts taken into account.

As for Magilton, his reign started pretty well with no money so he deserved the time he was given. Also, we were never in danger of relegation under Jim.

@dirtydingusmagee typical of you and your posts. I have lived in Florida for the last two years. I return home next year when I will again take up my ST. Over the 41 years I have supported this club I have probably paid out more money and traveled more miles to support my team than you have probably earned or traveled in your life time. Your best bet is to take your foot out of your mouth (again as it is becoming a habit for you) and shut up until you know what you are talking about.

As for RK staying great news the man deserves his second year and the reputation of the club of giving the manager a fair chance remains.

Dingus...play nicely or not at all...as you well know the crowd vocally chant Keane's name....last week we debated booing...now you are saying that any that support Keane can't possibly go to Portman Road...or perhaps you are suggesting Spec Savers in the town is missing 19,000 odd potential customers....?

just one stastic for you if we had had some one who could put the ball in the net regually we would be near top of the table. out of all the clubs we have had the most shots on target 326 compared with newcastle 255.

"Clearly results have to improve"

How much more do they need to improve, Cleggy? Since our winless run at the start of the season, our results have been:

P:25 W:10 D:10 L:5 Points:40

So despite the team not firing on all cylinders and struggling in front of goal, we've put a run together that, if sustained over a season, would easily get us in play-off contention...

RK has now had time to find out the strengths and weaknesses of his squad (not just on the pitch, but off it...) and I'm pretty sure if he's given the chance to fine-tune over the summer we'll hit the ground running next season. Or we could become a hire-'em-and-fire-'em club and get a new manager who will spend the whole of next season rebuilding the squad yet again...

I think as long as the press are lazy and go for the easy story they are'nt going to let sleeping dogs lie with Keane. No matter how many times Clegg and co keep coming out with statements of support they'll still be there with there 'ipswich insider' quotes of disruption.
For whats it's worth i think Keane will make a half decent manager one day, and i have been willing to give him time but i can't see him doing that here. I hope i'm wrong, there is nothing more i would like than that but i starting to struggle with that vision, there is just way too much negativity surrounding him which is a shame.

Cant we all just get along everyone has an oppinion...and will find all the valid points in the world to support it to their grave....a Wise man once said (me) that Keane is the type of man who could divide the fans like Marmite don't let it happen lol

Anyway two votes of confidence in a short space of time that's the omen is it not? lol

Dancer! Just remembered we've got marmite in the cupboard, cheers blueknight85!
Anyway as i said theres way to much negativity in the press so i think they'll hound him out evenually which is a shame. I hope he's given till Octoberish next season then if nothing by then, fair enough it'll be time for a change.

This wording looks a bit dodgy to me

Ipswich Town have confirmed that Roy Keane will still be their manager for this Saturday's home game against Reading.

Chief Executive Simon Clegg dismissed media reports claiming Keane would be out of a job soon, but stressed the club were not looking beyond this weekend.

Clegg said: "I'm aware of the media speculation around Roy but the club's stance is the same as it has always been. We remain fully behind the manager and he will be in charge as usual against Reading on Saturday.

Sensible and good statement, and i'm pleased to hear it.

Also interested to hear Sir Alex Ferguson tonight, once again attribute his teams success to the return of his solid back four from which he builds his team.

I have no doubt any prospective manager is chomping at the bit to continue from Keane's foundations - but it should be no-one other than Keane to complete his task.

All judgement should be passed at this stage next season at the earliest, when his team will be better moulded, built from his strong foundation - and i've every faith we will move forth with prowess and creativity - particularly if he continues to rid the deadwood and regenerate.

For those persistent negative posters, I will not respond to the baiting except to say; perhaps your fast food culture will be better satiated with a short trip to McDonald's. There you will get exactly what you want, when you want it; you can binge on as much as you can take. You will also enjoy the consequences afterward.

The rest of us will wait for the roast.

Its all getting boring now, will he wont he blah blah blah.
Hes our manager, its our team lets get behind them all and see where it takes us. We have no god given right to get outta this league, we are 1 of a dozen with realistic aims to do so. Changing managers never works. Is it a coincidence that Fergie and Wenger are the two longest serving AND most successful. Speculation and nonsense will always follow Keano so we should turn a blid eye, he does and get on with supporting the team.
Theres only one Keano...COYB Boys

Wicked Blue Chillax. Yes well done you have supported the club and you are obviously very rich. But I don't think Dingus singled you out in particular. I agree with him, the majority of narrow minded people on this sight very rarely go at all and like so many fickle Ipswich supporters jump on the band wagon and don't really know what they are saying because they haven't seen first hand what is going on on the pitch.

As for my opinion on Roy Keane, he said he would get us promoted in 2 seasons, I'm no maths genius but I do believe Roy hasn't even had a 1 full season yet. So lets get off his case and support the team and our manager.

PS Hope you're well dingus, raining in Oz today :-(
