Keane Speculation Continues
Keane Speculation Continues
Tuesday, 30th Mar 2010 09:06

Speculation regarding Roy Keane’s future continues in this morning’s papers despite Simon Clegg’s backing of the Blues boss yesterday.

One report claims the squad find training under Keane’s assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” and were less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago.

In the same report, an unnamed former director is said to have slammed the Irishman’s running of Town: “Roy Keane is ruining the club. The mess he left at Sunderland has only just been cleared up.”

Elsewhere, it’s been revealed that former chairman and current board member David Sheepshanks is earning £80,000 a year to run the National Football Centre, which is set to be built near Burton, and FA Learning.

No other member of the FA committee is salaried but a spokesman defended the arrangement: “There has been no impropriety. The agreement was approved by the FA's remuneration committee and the Professional Game Board.”

Sheepshanks was appointed chairman of the National Football Centre project in January.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham was left out of the England U17s side which beat Malta 5-0 in their second European Championships elite qualifying group game last night. The Town frontman netted in Saturday's 4-0 victory against Sweden.

England complete their fixtures with a match against Slovakia at Northampton on Thursday needing a point to qualify for the finals.

This is just getting tedious now.

As for the squad being ' less than impressed with the 90-minute lock-in after the defeat at Watford a fortnight ago', I think they'll find there were 1500 fans less than impressed with their performance.

Journalists stirring things up with totally fabricated stories once again. "Unnamed former director" means "made-up source that I don't have to reveal because they don't exist". Anyone else watch the last series of NewsWipe? Name your source and we might believe it.

More drivel from lazy journos, propping up the bar.

Must be a tough job....

This is not going to stop until the team start climbing the table, so it won't stop until next season! :)
Come on Town, stick with Keane and we can put this season behind us once we are safe!

" One report claims the squad find training under Keane's assistant Tony Loughlan “tedious” "

I'm sure this was in the evening star like 6 months ago! un-named player that time. Rumour is Tony is the mouth piece for RK, like a dog who barks, but thats whaat the paper said.

I wish these papers would just STOP , they are trying to create the news instead of reporting it!
Looks like the guy at work was right on Connor Wickham, I posted yesterday that he said he was a doubt for the Malta game due to an injury. Fingers crossed it's not bad and he recovers for the next game and then comes back to us fit!

Employee finds routine tasks at work dull and doesn't like getting told off for bad performance. Wow, how unusual.

Bennyblue-tut, tut, tut. The number of gramatical errors in your post are a disgrace to the English language. May I please point out that it is 'OUR' club not 'ARE' club, and also that there is no need for two commas.
Ok, now I've sorted that out, we can get onto the ridiculous nature of your comments. Everyone on this site, with the exeption of the odd scum fan, wants what is best for our club, and we can see that changing the manager would result in another year of rebuilding our side with the players a new manager would undoubtedly want to bring in. Keane has built a strong side here, and dismantalling that along with sacking the manager would be a step backwards.

seems to me only the Keaneites consider its just lazy journalism, just like they believed we were going on an amazing run of wins [pre Christmas] and we would rocket up the table into play offs. And next week we are really going to ''thrash em''[ [but its always next week ]They close there eyes to shut anything out they dont want to see , .

Having met one or two former directors, I wouldn't trust a word they are saying. They should butt out and not try to further damage the club which they say they love. Interestingly, these same people were also slagging off Jim while he was still in charge a year ago. Problem is, they are upset because they are "former" directors.
Clegg has reiterated that he and Evans support the manager. that's good enough for me.

agree these newspaper " rumours " are getting tedious , but Clegg could have killed it by saying Keane will be here next season ( I hope he is ) ,but instead Clegg gave more incentive to the rumours by his very limited backing .....I'm beginning to wonder .....over to you Clegg ....

tom_the_blue (pedant);

A change of manager does not guarantee a year of upheaval, we've just come to expect that because Roy 'I only need one or two new players' Keane has made such a mess of his first year. I would argue that someone like Curbs could do a good job with our squad. Also Keanes most effective players (Colback and Murphy) are merely on loan.

The main issue for me is the lack of consistency, every fan likes to think that they know what th first choice XI is, why does Keano have to change every week.

I have stuck with it for long enough, but that has now become too long. If there were encouraging signs or some good football being played I could be confident about next season, but there is no evidence for that whatsoever.

I think Evans' doubts would have started to kick in when Priskin was loaned out. After Keane has wasted £4.5m on Priskin, Martin and Edwards, how can Evans trust him to spend his money this summer!??!?!

Every club board backs the manager up to the point that they sack them (if they do) - and nothing that SC says will stop journos from writing about rumours and conjecture..

tractorgirls added 10:45 - Mar 30
I know of one person from within the club who has said that Keane has to go, and he has been around the club for many years and is highly respected in football..

I doubt it is speculation, Marcus Evans could end the speculation by giving him a new contract, Keane will be gone soon I imagine a bad result against Reading could spell the end of the line, it's a shame, some things work in football and some things don't.

This is one of the things that didn't work out.

some people just need to shut up and start supporting the team rather than continually boo and moan about keane! Go and support someone else!
