Town Keeper Trapped By Volcano
Town Keeper Trapped By Volcano

Town boss Roy Keane has revealed that keeper Brian Murphy has been trapped in Ireland because of the closure of UK airspace due to ash from the Icelandic volcano. The Blues keeper was making his way back to Suffolk via ferry and car and last night had made it as far as Carlisle.

Keane said: “Our goalkeeper’s stranded in Ireland because of this volcano in Iceland. He’s due back this morning, he got the ferry back.

“Last I heard he was in Carlisle at half-nine last night driving with his missus, God help her.

“What’s that five or six hours away? If he’s back here this morning he’ll just do a light session.

“It was one of those things, he just got stranded. The players had Wednesday off and he nipped back as he had a family situation.

“But Murph’s a top professional and if he’s in half-decent shape he won’t be disciplined.”

Keane says he will make changes to his side with Damien Delaney ruled out for three months with the ankle ligament injury he suffered last week at Nottingham Forest, while David Healy is out for a week with a knee problem he has picked up in training and Carlos Edwards has chicken pox.

The Blues boss says youngsters Tom Eastman, Troy Brown and Luke Hyam have been training with the first team squad and could be involved against Doncaster on Saturday: “In terms of the three injuries, there’ll be changes and we might give one or two of the young players an opportunity to see where they’re at.”

Tommy Smith is likely to come in at centre-half as a straight replacement for Delaney with the younger players probably amongst the substitutes.

Expect Murphy to be involved in some incident tomorrow. I can see him being sent off, saving a penalty or generally involved in some confrontation leading to the inevitable "explosive/ high temperature/ left ipswich season in ashes" headlines in the papers !

I´m trapped in the Canary Islands by the volcano - not quite the same chance as Murphy of getting back for the Doncaster game now, but I'll cope somehow... COYB!!
