Adkins Admits Hooper Could Leave Scunthorpe
Adkins Admits Hooper Could Leave Scunthorpe
Tuesday, 20th Apr 2010 09:20

Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins has hinted that his club may allow striker Gary Hooper to move on in the summer. Town, Leeds, QPR and Derby are all understood to be interested in signing the 22-year-old former Grays Athletic man.

Adkins said: "Billy Sharp and Martin Paterson moved on for big money and Gary Hooper is the next logical one

"We are trying to be a developmental club where we allow players to come in, develop and move on to bigger and better things for a decent fee."

Hooper, rated at around the £1 million mark, is out of contract in the summer of 2011 and this summer is likely to be the last chance the Iron will have to cash in on him.

On Friday, boss Roy Keane said he will be looking to sign four or five players in the summer and admitted that several members of the current squad could be on their way out of Portman Road during the close season.

I can see this one happening. Interesting that QPR are one of the clubs mentioned, it doesn't sound as if Priskin will be going there.

If we could start next season with Wickham, Hooper and Priskin + 1 other, I'd settle for that.

So you think Pablo will not be here?

I think the time is right for Pablo to move on. Obviously as he is still under contract he has the final say and we could end up with the same thing happening again with Swansea.

I think Pablo will leave in the summer as he is too temperamental for Keano. He is a player that will command a fee, maybe 400K, and as one of our larger earners will free up some cash. I'm sure Stead will be off as well for a similar fee.

Just the sort of player we should look to sign I think. 16 goals in 28 games this season is not a bad ratio, and has been consistent over the last two seasons - with 30 last year!

Tell me his name is not O'Hooper, MacHooper or Green Hooper! He might be worth a punt along with Austin from Swindon.

Only problem with signing Hooper is the other clubs who are after him - Leeds are going to lose Beckford, which gives them money to burn and whilst we'd probably be the better fit for him, They are still a Marque name, with 30,000+ crowds every week. Might be a tough ask to sign him - unless Leeds fail to get promotion, which would be nice!!

pabs likes it in ipswich. Even if Keane doesnt want him i cant see him moving.
he has at least a year on his contract, as Jim extended it before he left.
