Town Linked With Summer Move for Cardiff's Chopra
Town Linked With Summer Move for Cardiff's Chopra
Tuesday, 20th Apr 2010 14:54

Town boss Roy Keane is being linked with a £3 million summer move for Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra. The 26-year-old played under Roy Keane at Sunderland and the Blues have been linked with the former England U21 international on a number of occasions.

The Town manager brought Chopra from Cardiff to Sunderland for £5 million in the summer of 2007, the former Newcastle man netting eight times in 24 starts and 18 sub appearances during his time at the Stadium of Light.

Chopra’s record in his spells with Cardiff is more prolific, the frontman scoring 22 goals in 44 games in his first and 25 in 63 starts and 11 appearances from the bench since returning initially on loan last season.

Earlier in the season, Keane said he would have been interested in signing Chopra last summer but was aware that his £3 million move back to Wales was already all but done by the time he took over at Portman Road.

The Town boss is said to be ready to make his move if the Bluebirds fail to win promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs and find themselves needing to raise cash in the summer.

Keep him off the Black Jack table - Wickham , Chopra , Jackson and Lambert

or Wickham , Lisbie , Priskin and Counago

Oh we love this time of year ...

please god let this be true, if we were able to get chopra in a town shirt I can see us really pushing on next season, I rate him much higher than Murphy and he would be our 20 goal striker we need !!!

one note of warning he does go on massive long runs without scoring (not a Keneo style pulling comment!) quite often.

Chopra "owes" RK big time , for (quote the player) "saving his life , literally. And by allowing him to tarnsfer back to Cardiff when his life really was threatened by circumstances. He is also said to be keen to re join a RK team again !

If Cradiff dont go up and they owe a huuuge amunt of dosh - my understanding is Town are in with a real chance of gettig him!

Of course this is only rumour. But I would be very happy if we did sign Chopra - so much better than most of our strikers. As I have said previously, out of all the strikers on the books, I would only kep Wickham.

I still think Priskin is capable, but whether he'll ever flourish in an RK team is another matter. Regardless, we still need at least one more striker and Chopra would do OK, I'd rather take a gamble on a League 1 striker though, but only if the price was right.

If town are looking for a bargin try looking at Craddock of Luton town,
Great player, young and got a bit of pace about him. plus he wont cost £M+++. just a thought!! has scored 26 Goals this season, ok i know its in the BSquare league but i've seen him play a few times and he knows where the goal isand is a worker.(No i'm not his agent by the way...lol)
Wouldn't mind Chopra aswell though!! COYB

I like the Lee Hughes suggestion. I'm actually off to watch him play tonight, hopefully. Great player. Brings so much energy and movement to an attack.

Would be incredibly disappointed to see Lee Hughes in a town shirt.

Chopra on the other hand would be a fantastic purchase.

This is probably the only ex Sunderland/Roy keane player most fans will accept this summer
other than the unlikely colback of course

No thanks to Lee Hughes on account of what he did. I support a man's right to get on with his life once he's done his time, I'd just sooner he got on with his life some place else. Unless of course he's working tirelessly behind the scenes to raise money and awareness in respect of what he did with a view to stopping others doing the same thing, in which case fair enough. But I don't think that's likely.

Good idea Keano, great striker who can score a goal and get into double figures in a season, this is much preferred to that southampton player we've been linked with

Sorry, did Hughes not pay for what he done? It's just i could have sworn he was found guilty and done his time in jail...
I saw a couple of posts saying he's not a man earlier....well i think he's more of a man coming back and doing what hes good at, Alot of people would just go and hide away and basically waste a talent, i'm not saying what he done is acceptable but let him live his life and if thats in a blues shirt and he's scoring goals then fair play to him.

Chopra would be good. Some on here saying 3 mill is alot .

so is 1.7 for priskin and 1.5 ( possibly 2 mill according to Mr. Ham )

I thought that jamie mackie looked a busy pestly strijker for plymouth and he has got a few for a low scoring team. had a good game against newcastle last night and might be cheap as plymouth will need to rebuild.

Erm,aren't we jumping the gun here slightly?..can't see Chopra leaving Cardiff if they get promoted.

Still think Becchio from Leeds would be a good signing.

Would be a good signing. Guaranteed to score goals! Get Whitingham too if possible, though I doubt it with prem teams sniffing around.

Lol Lee Hughes yeah lets buy a relic from league 2! Sounds like a good plan for promotion. He's 33 and the best suited league for him is League 1, good job Notts got promoted then. For Ipswich, no thanks. Chopra is what we are looking for.
