Healy's Season Over
Healy's Season Over
Friday, 23rd Apr 2010 08:55

Loan striker David Healy says his season has almost certainly been ended by the medial knee ligament injury he picked up in training last week. The Northern Irishman has also revealed that he has been playing with a rib injury for most of his time with the Blues.

Writing in his column in the Belfast Telegraph, the 30-year-old said: “In recent weeks I have been playing through the pain barrier as I fractured a rib in a game against Blackpool just after Northern Ireland’s trip to Albania.

“I’ve had to take painkillers just to get through training but now this new injury has finished my season.

“All I want to do now is work on my fitness, have a good break in the summer then come back to Sunderland totally refreshed for pre-season.

“I don’t know what the future will hold for me as I haven’t sat down and talked to the manager but I want to play a lot more football next season.”

Healy admits his time at Town didn’t go to plan: “Although I didn’t score as many goals as I would have liked during my loan period, I hope I have contributed something in what has been a difficult season for everyone at Portman Road.

“The one goal I did score earned us a point at Scunthorpe which was important at the time but of course I would have wanted to play more and find the target more."

Healy has been receiving treatment for his injury at Town but expects to return to Sunderland to continue his medical attention next week.

Hardly the end of the world. He didn't live up to expectations and we have other options.

Exactly! A bit like when Ambrose came back - lots of expectations but not good enough to win a deal IMO.

Fortunately Ambrose has got his form back so who knows!

Didn't realise it had started to be honest.

It simply didn't work out. He did score one crucial goal and set up one for Murphy on their debuts. Other than that, I would be surprised if Roy brought him back.

Seen too little from him, for me when he has had time on the pitch hes looked less than match fit, so to hear he's been playing with an injury isn't a huge surprise.

I would have liked to have a fit striker playing for us,Healy has done little for several seasons now,and at 30 i dont think he is the anser to our striker problem. Perhaps Chopra if thats possible, Scotland or Ewbanks-Blake both seemed to have failed to cut it in the Prem but if they become available i dont suppose they would chose us over the other glut of Champship clubs who would be interested or would they? !!

likes to big himself up doesn't he, and also to make excuses. He has contributed NOTHING, one goal, great

one goal was worth one point, which has made no difference to our season, other than giving us 55 points instead of 54, its been a nothing season full of crap uninteresting football with a prime pleb in charge
