Season Ticket Total 12,800
Season Ticket Total 12,800
Friday, 23rd Apr 2010 13:13

Town sold 12,800 season tickets before the early bird deadline which passed earlier in the month. That figure is 800 up on the same time a year ago with the total eventually reaching 15,950 for the current season.

Chief executive Simon Clegg says the numbers will grow over the summer but doesn’t foresee last year’s figure being matched: "We would expect more purchases through the summer, as is normal, so we will be over the 13,000 mark overall for 2010/11.

"Like for like, we are up around 800 on this stage last year but obviously when you take in the final figures following Roy's arrival last year, there has been a drop.

"While that is disappointing, it is also very understandable and falls in line with the figures we have of other clubs in the Championship who are similar in size to us and have also had similar seasons to us in terms of not being able to reach the play-offs.

"There is also the continuing financial pressure given the current economic climate, but it's worth noting that we are averaging over 20,000 at home games this season, amongst the highest in the Championship.

"Those figures are on the back of what has clearly been a disappointing season so it shows the potential that is there if we start to win games on a consistent basis."

Season ticket prices have been frozen for the season ahead with the Blues also continuing their Premiership Cashback offer.

That is disgusting - a stadium with 30,000 capacity and we around the 15,000 Mark

come on club - cheapen the price of season tickets, get the ground full!!!

My ticket for new season ticket holders is £590. Disgusting. Then I realised we actually have season tickets on sale for £700 and £1000 for premium seats! I could sit in the most comfortable of seats and still think I was watching utter crap

I don't think the price is the issue, it is the hopeless dull defensive direct football and the clueless tactics
Keane has just moved a big step closer to the door

That is brilliant - loads of leg room, easier bar access and less traffic.

Would comfort make a loss less painful??? - No.

So calculate then ov and average say we sold 12,500 tickets at £300 each - obviously making the amount less due to kids prices aswell.

that works out at £3.7 Million.

Thats not alot really if you think about it.

itfc1981: yeah cos they must hate having 25,000 crowds in League 1 mustn't they? People on here keep saying how the crowd can help the team, well maybe they need to help the crowd be bigger in the first place.

It all helps.

Blimey..surley if you drop the prices u'll get more season tickets sold and that adds up to more money in, or about the same BUT there are more bums on seats so a fuller House giving more support, its that simple Marcus.

Totally agree with COPOSTCODE. Drop the prices and fill the ground. If and it is a big IF we got promoted next season I would only sell season ticket renewels. Make the "jump on the bandwagon glory hunters" pay a premium on the day price. ITFC forever.

oh dear oh dear oh dear. What is mr simon clegg here for? He should be finding ways to improve these figures. Its not rocket science. Reduce ticket prices and fill the stadium..... increase revenue.....bigger crowds better atmosphere better results......

Here's an interesting example. Sheffield United drop their prices for a game against us. It's midweek and adults get in for a tenner. Sheffield United have just clawed a goal back to make the score 2-3 after not playing particularly well. The crowd is full and willing the team on. Sheffield United get a late goal to level the scoring. Obviously a number of factors are involved but surely there is a possibility that had there been a smaller crowd, the atmosphere would not have been as good and we may have won the game. Lower prices please. More people bring in more revenue from food and drink and merchandise despite the lower crowds.

I meant lower prices

Surely it would make more sense to lower the prices, get more people in, more money on programmes, more money behind the bars, more money in the club shop....I'm no business guru but £500 is enough to put anyone off especially if you counter in children aswell. Shocking way to run a club. This is not an olympic site in the heart of the nation, we are a small club with a large area of fans to pool from but not the financial desposible income to spare. Bonkers.

Cannot for the life of me work out why they do not lower ticket prices slightly, as several have mentioned before me. If not the season ticket prices then at least for match day tickets, some of those prices are ridiculous. Atmosphere at Portman Road is disintegrating with each year outside the premiership, so get the prices down and people in and it becomes a much more enjoyable day out for everyone.

hype313 i know what you mean, its like trains running empty and tickets cost the earth, im no business man so obviously im missing something ,but it does strike me as odd.Its a bloody expensive day out now going to matches, be you season ticket holder or not, it should not be too surprising when people get pissed off watching the crap we sometimes have to watch, YET we are classed as whingers if we make our feelings known .

This is something that really gets my goat. Whilst I agree that the season ticket prices could be lowered, the bigger disgrace for me has been the match day ticket prices. I have away passports and season tickets in the past and for various reasons I can't currently get a season ticket. However, I still get to half the home games and a few away, and the prices to get in are ridiculous. On the day after the Plymouth game I walked past the ground and saw tickets in the Cobbold Stand for £37.50. And this was Grade C game! Imagine paying £37.50 to see us lose against them. The SBR upper is over £30 a game. What incentive in this climate is there to go.

I went to POSH away and with petrol shared between a few of us and ticket prices all in, it was cheaper to go to this away league game, than walk down to the gorund and take in one at home. They need to look at this, or it will crowds of 16,000 next season, Scum and Leeds aside.

As a fan based in the midlands, I can't afford to attend many home games. An ST is out of the question - I would miss quite a few games anyway - and with single tickets at £25+ and petrol and about £30, it's a no-go. I end up going to local away games (Cov, Leics, Brum teams etc) or watching my local team at £9 a ticket and within walking distance of home with 2 pubs en route.
Not just STs but casual ticket prices MUST be reduced - it's simple supply and demand. If you're Manure and you're gonna get 75K+ at every game, you can charge silly prices. Hurts to say this but we could learn a lot from our inbred neighbours - what would our gates have been in Div 3?

Could be worse..£600 for a seat facing the pitch...it's twice that for one facing the back of the stand.

so if we signed say Chopra and Hooper and say Keiron Dyer (just a name out of the hat!) dont you think that might persuade most of the missing 2000 to reconsider....??

There is a recession on, people are skint or unemployed, petrol costs a fortune and the football hasnt been of the highest quality to say the least. Its a no-brainer.....drop the prices.

I agree with the comments about match day prices. I occasionally get tickets for friends and family, but at £31 to £35 in my block this is a lot of money especially with the quality of football and entertainment being so poor. There needs to be a big price drop, else our attendances are going to be embarrassing compared with Norwich!

Agree that prices need to be dropped to try and entice back the missing fans. Once people get out of the habit of going they may never come back. We also seem to have some of the most expensive matchday ticket prices in the division, especially for visiting fans. I have a season ticket and pay over 8 months, but judging by the matchday prices i see, if i didnt have the season ticket, i dont think i would find the money on a match by match basis to go anymore. I'm sure the club will say the prices are similar to other clubs our size but i dont agree and they seem to not realise that bigger crowds bring in better revenue and help the team. Perhaps they should contact fans on the database who dont have season tickets to ask them if cutting the price is likely to make them go to more matches?

I dont think that the 12,800 figure is a surprise to anyone after the season we have just witnessed.I totally agree that the prices are far too high.It looks like we will average about 17-18,000 next season (if we are lucky !)unless things improve dramatically on the pitch. How embarrasing that our neighnbours up the road have just sold 18,500 Season tickets....Simon Clegg needs to have a re-think of his strategy !!!!
