Newcastle Shouldn't Be Partying
Newcastle Shouldn't Be Partying
Saturday, 24th Apr 2010 07:09

Roy Keane says a club the size of Newcastle shouldn’t have a party for winning the Championship title, just as his former club Sunderland oughtn’t to have done when he took them into the Premier League in 2007.

Keane says neither of the North-East giants should see promotion from the Championship as an achievement: “I don’t think Newcastle should be having a party, I don’t think there’s anything to celebrate. At Sunderland they asked us about an open-top bus and I nearly threw up!

“For clubs like Newcastle and Sunderland, with the type of crowds they get, I honestly think they shouldn’t be celebrating anything.

“Same for West Brom, they go up and down every second year. They know what it takes to compete at a decent level. They can party all they want, but they should be focusing on next season really.”

Keane says he has a lot of time for Newcastle manager Chris Hughton: “I’ve got great respect for Chris Hughton, I worked with Chris [with Ireland], he’s a good man and a very good coach.”

Despite being a former Sunderland boss, Keane isn’t too concerned at facing their greatest rivals: “I’ve been to Newcastle before, it’s water off a duck’s back.”

oh i forgot to mention if you think newcastle shouldnt be partying roy after winning promotion about 20 games into the season then what the hell should you be doing after having us in the relegation zone for 3 quarters of the year stop quacking roy you havent earned the right to comment on a performance like newcastles after your own useless season at ipswich town fc..maybe thats your problem you spend too much time getting ready for the cameras and your wonderul views on every other bloody club so you havent got time to sort out the mess you created here at town just shut it keane and get te results for us and earne the right to comment on others...3 pts against newcastle would be a little step in the right direction they wont be focused this weekend so lets spoil their celebrations

You really have to appreciate the comedy in "At Sunderland they asked us about an open-top bus and I nearly threw up!" - Quality!!

bennyblue - yeah it's been a crap season but a few of those draws in to wins and all you keane bashers would be whistling a different tune! It's not just keane though, the players who have massively under performed this season need to take responsibility.

Agreed that he shouldn't be commenting on a club like NUFC....

Keano, concentrate on your own team instead of your ego then maybe the town fans would have something to celebrate.A large fanbase does not give you right to be in the EPL and if you were certain that NUFC would go straight back up then you were one of the few.The team have earned the right to play in the EPl and deserve the right to celebrate with the fans.Man Utd are expected to win a trophy every year but did you not celebrate when you won with them?
Town get rid of him,you deserve better get back into the top league and get both of Sir Bobby's teams up there.Keane won't get you there though(just my opinion).
Good luck next season and to those coming up today have a great time(match apart)HWTL

Why the hell does Keane allow himself to get drawn into these comments, Yes think it privately, but saying something like this before the game is surely only gonna make the Newcastle players even more "up for it" than they are already!! Keane you've got to start engaging your brain before your mouth.
However, Good luck, for today boys!!

Of course they have something to celebrate, they are run-away Champions of our league and bounced back at the first time of asking unlike other big teams such as Sheffield Wed and Leeds who continued to decline and found themselves in League One. Newcastle did it despite a lot of off-the-field problems and deserve to celebrate if they want.

I agree with the postings above, why is Keane commenting on other clubs and trying to put down the achievements of others? Let's look at ourselves: we spent more money that most teams this season yet we are 13th. I find the comments embarrasing and the only thing they will do is fire up Newcastle even more today.

Newcastle are an outstanding side. They deserve to go up. I agree with the point Roy is making. IMO the same applies to Norwich - they were relegated last year and now they are boasting and saying how great they re. Reality ckeck - like Newcastle it was unthinkable that Norwich were relegated in the first place. A reason to party and boast a year on? I don't think so.

jas0999 Who's boasting, there's a difference between celebrating and boasting. If you don't celebrate the good times, and as a Toon fan they come along rarely then what's the point of following football?

It's all if if if. If a few of those draws had been losses then all the "The sun shines out of Keanes backsiders" would be whistling a different tune.

Come to think of it I don't think they would afterall they tend to support Keane come what may.

Newcastle have set a brilliant example this season- their fans deserve every right to celebrate after all the crap they've gone through with Mike Ashley,Keegan,Shearer etc..they've just got stuck in this season and played like a team..Chris Hughton's just knuckled down and got on with it - he only speaks about his own team NOT about everybody else's like Keane thinks he needs to do.

Roy - I wish you'd just shut up and concentrate on the job in front of you..you,your coaching staff and your tactics have been pathetic this season..if we're stuck with you for a few more months then I for one am expecting a massive improvement at ITFC.

yes roy concentrate on what we are doing and no won else, well done the toon, they dersve it they were the best team all year and why not go and get trashed in good old toon fashion .

but just listen to the game and my god why didnt i go i nearly toon my daughter but just couldnt warrent the expense but hey ho, if we sell whickham then evans and keane want dumbing big style, just shows what we can do when we start playing football and if it wasnt for bleeding liam we could have won it, me personally dont think liam gets a contract as he was good but gone right of the boil.

If Keane kept his mouth shut and stopped alienating everyone things would perhaps improve - unfortunately he can't and we are stuck with this incompetent , miserable, moody and rude manager for another year.

I've tried to defend Keane on some of his comments etc throughout the season, but this one is pretty ridiculous!

Not to celebrate an achievement of any sort is a depressing way to think if you ask me.

why the hell doe's he feel compelled to make statements like that, no point, no reason , just button it Keane, you are Towns manager, YOU focus on what you have to do , !.Its that sort of talk that gets peoples backs up,when you are not getting things right yourself . Let all the winners celebrate, regardless.

Keano is a legend the result at St James Park was brilliant and overall a great effort from the lads coming back twice in the game to get a great point against a team that has only suffered being held 4 times this whole season at home. Playoffs next season COYB,
In Keano We Trust
