Rodgers in Running for Portsmouth Job
Rodgers in Running for Portsmouth Job

Town assistant manager target Brendan Rodgers is in the running to take over as boss at Portsmouth, according to Pompey’s administrator Andrew Andronikou. Rodgers is understood to be Roy Keane’s first choice as he looks for an assistant, while the ex-Reading and Watford manager is also set for talks regarding a role at Manchester City.

Andronikou says Rodgers is amongst a number of candidates to take over from Avram Grant: “We've had half a dozen come forward so far. Brendan Rodgers is a name that has been recommended to us by a third party. He is definitely in and around our thoughts.

“Steve Cotterill is another one. But I can say [current Portsmouth first team coach] Paul Groves has not thrown his hat into the ring - and nor do I expect him to.”

With Rodgers appearing increasingly sought after, Keane may be forced to look elsewhere for his deputy.

Even if he did come to us, Im not sure an Assitant Manager that will keep getting linked with mangerial posts is a good appointment, doesnt indicate stability.

We need an assistant manager who wants to be an assistant manager!!

We'll never get him.

So have Tony Loughlan and Ian McFarlane been demoted, or have they not worked out as planned? We used to have stable Assistant Managers (Roberts under Burley, Donachie under Royle...) but now it seems to keep changing (a bit like the team!).

surely being linked with alot of other clubs means that he's a man in demand?
If we get him then that means that Kean and the club are aiming high,
I would be more concerned being linked with someone not in demand..

This is another not so important topic for me. I don't say it is not good to get the best possible assistant coach but it is Keane who is the important guy here. If he is good that is enough, but if he is no good even the best assistant ever cannot change things. So my point is - we need to get the players we are looking for! This is the big job to be done!
