Target Derry Set for QPR
Target Derry Set for QPR
Tuesday, 25th May 2010 09:55

Town target Shaun Derry is set to be reunited with his former Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock at QPR, according to reports in south London. Blues boss Roy Keane saw the 32-year-old as the ideal man to bring experience and know-how to his side.

However, it appears Derry, who is out of contract at the end of June, has instead opted to move from Selhurst Park to Loftus Road, along with former Blue Darren Ambrose, who is currently in talks with the Superhoops, and left-back Clint Hill. Derry also briefly played under Warnock at Sheffield United.

Keane is looking to add “four or five” players to his squad over the summer with experienced Championship campaigners in the Derry mould very much on his wish-list.

Thank the lord, a player at the end of his career, never one for us.

we should be after Ambrose..we need goals from the midfield, not just the so called mythical 20 goals striker. Ambrose and Chopra would hve me excited again.

If Roy wants to bring in "the ideal man with experience and know-how" why doesn't he try and get George Burley or Alan Curbishley.

Keane is looking for players who would be good in a relegation scrap for next session by the sounds of things. We MUST be able to do better than this.

Blueblood 66 welsh dragon ? nice one.

Agree with most,Derry do not need. Ambrose,Chopra YES. Simeon Jackson Gillingham would sell him now they have been relegated!! would not cost much, young and keen to do well. Garvan best game he had for us last season Cardiff away if Keno does not want him,Dave Jines might, part of deal for Chopra? Robert Koren would also be a good signing, free. Ebanks Blake may be another good option, proven in the championship(if only on season long loan)

joeiipy et al : to my knowledge Keane hasn't stated he is after any of these players reported in the press so why, in May, are you presuming he is building a releagtion fight squad? Lets see who he targets and then the usual can attack him

i would love an early signing of quality, trade period is exciting but i can only take so much anticipation! surely with his history Ambrose would jump at the oppotunity to join town if we showed the slightest interest ?

I'm not sure Ambrose would jump at joining Town anymore, we didn't sign him when he came on loan to us leaving him having to find a new club, and when, as he was, your not playing very well, thats not an easy thing to do.

I would like to see him back here though.

If Keane knows he wants why are we not starting to see some movement yet?! we've been caught out before playing this waiting game, whilst everyone around us starts signing players, we just seem to be "linked with"
Come on Keano / Clegg lets start seeing some action!!

Maybe he's waiting for the World cup to start?
if we were to bid on players what we already know what there like and actually get them then thats less money for us to spend on the little gems he's going to find there!!
Then you'll get all the moaners saying that we spent to early and should have waited....i think he's just keeping his options open so he can have the kitty if there is a bargin come out of the WC, i would spend money on Chopra though....

I am not too worried about losing out on Derry, but I really think we should match QPR's £750K bid for Ambrose and at least talk to the player. He may well prefer QPR as he will be reunited with Warnock, he won't have to move far/at all, and he may feel that QPR will have a better chance of promotion next season than Ipswich. However, if we do not even bid for Ambrose then I think that is bizarre when we need a left-sided midfielder and after Ambrose scored 15 Championship goals last season!

Yes, it is early days BUT our rivals are signing players and it is disappointing if we do not. If we could get a big signing early then it would raise expectation and may encourage other players to join us too, after all most decent players want to be part of a successful team with a chance of promotion.

I know that the season has barely finished but I can't help but agree with many of the comments made by 'Mark'. A big signing would encourage others to the club. So who should we go for? Personally I would like to see Kevin Phillips at the club - a proven goalscorer and a great player for CW to learn from. Now if KP has one more season in him, I think Connor and Kevin would provide the fire-power we have been missing for far too long.

Warnock is sorting his side out early ready for next season and the game plan he wants his team to play ,Keane will probably leave it late do some panic buys and then have the excuse of new players needing time to gel .

Ambrose should be a must for that money even just to talk to him and offer him an option to QPR ,perhaps hes not a character, he only scores goals as a midfielder including against us Roy

As most of you are pointing out - I will not die if Derry didn't join us. I don't see him as a Premiership player. That's said I am getting anxious about Warnock's QPR now. He will get the best of Palace for no money and I expect him to continue to buy players so it seems QPR will be a contender this season...

WickedBlue added 13:38 - May 25
We could match the fee and wages being offered for Ambrose and he will still pick QPR over us! Why because when no one believed in him including us at ITFC Warnock did and took him to Palace and got the best out of him. We have zero chance of signing Ambrose so some of you really do need to get your heads out of the clouds thinking everyone wants to play for Ipswich.

As for being happy about not getting Derry you lot really are idiots...that man Captained Palace last season who if not for losing Warnock and getting 10 points deducted would have been in the playoffs this season. Warnock is a really good Manager and if he wants Derry to follow him to QPR that is because he is a very good player. But again he won't come to Ipswich as long a Warnock wants him, and you have to admire loyalty like that.

Agree also with Blandford and Mark above - Left sided midfielder, proven at this level and would be the sort of player to keep into the next. Good age, currently in good form. Perhaps they are talking to him, and perhaps as others suggest he may just not be interested. But for 750k it just seems a bargain price, compared with the poo in a bag that we pay similar fees for (or more) and then release!

WickedBlue,
I agree with your comments, Players do stay with managers that show faith in them which is why i'm quite comfident that we do stand a chance with the likes of Chopra. he has openly said that he would love to play for Kean again as he believed in him by taking him to sunderland. As for Ambrose coming back to town! well he is a good player but i can't help but feel we've been there done that, i know that sounds harsh but lets move on,
Also, as for Derry. He obviously wants to play elswhere so whats the point in going for players that don't actually want to play for our club, i would rather have a lower league player come in and give 100% to the club then someone who didn't get the move they actually wanted and just settled for 2nd best.
I'm sure we will get some good signings in the near future as after all it is still May!!!

Accoring to reports in South London! Says it all, think until someone signs on the dotted line then he is still very much up for grabs. As others have said though I think he will most likely choose to stay in London and hook up again with Warnock. Derry was never a priority anyway and at most we would have got one good season out of him, lets build a team for the future even if it does take a little longer. If it worked for Sir Bobby then it will do for me. UTT

Oi! Evans! Listen and listen good.

No-one wants to work with Keane, not as a player, not as a coach and increasingly, not as fans

Please see what is so obvious it hurts to anyone who cares about the club.

Keane has to go now and please get some proper advice about who should take over this club

comeonthegoodtimes added 16:26 - May 25
Wow, did you really just put that,

I can see Mr Evens listening to you as you put it so nicely Vexorg,

Tell you what, why don't you go for the job as assistant and tell Keano exactly what you think? you never know you might be in charge of us in the next 3 or 4 months as you know exactly whats wrong and know what everyone else is thinking....Hell, even better, Go down to PR and get a meeting with ME and tell him in person. I think he'll really listen to you......

Tw*t!!!

I, for one, think vexorg is bang on the money. Keane will buy 6 players of whom 4 will be a disaster. The man is ignorant and, very likely, mentally ill. We only tolerate him because he is a so called 'big name'. Holloway with nothing did a much better job than Keane with millions. Players hate him, other mangers don't want to do business with him and we must get shot. Isn't the evidence of the worst season in living memory enough? Ipswich is (or was) about decency and entertainment.
