Foley Off to Tampa Bay
Foley Off to Tampa Bay
Tuesday, 25th May 2010 22:45

Exiting Town specialist skills coach Steve Foley is to join the staff of US side the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Manager Roy Keane decided not to renew Foley’s contract at the end of the season, the ex-Colchester and Norwich coach having been at Portman Road for four years.

Foley had expressed an interest in the vacant Colchester manager's job but was not amongst the contenders to succeed Aidy Boothroyd, despite previously being a caretaker-boss, coach and player with the U's.

The 56-year-old will sign a three-year contract with the Florida side, who play in the USSF Division Two Professional League, the division below the MLS.

Foley will be working under head coach Paul Dalglish, who he knows well from their time together at Norwich City.

In 2008, Foley invited Dalglish to train with the Blues after his release by MLS side the Houston Dynamo.

The Rowdies are one of the original teams from the 80s incarnation of the American "Soccer" league. I believe a certain John Gorman played from them at the beginning of the decade

I have lived in Tampa Bay since 2003. Untill Tommy smith got called into the N.Z. world cup squad, I did not know FC Tampa Bay Rowdies was alive. Jeremy Christie, who plays for the Rowdies, is also in the N.Z. squad, and from what I have seen of him, ITFC could do far worse than give him a trial.
This is there website http://fctampabay.com/ There is no mention of Steve Foley, but then again the match report from the St Louis game from Saturday is not up yet either. The team is that new. From my research the only thing this team has in common with the original team in Tampa is, they are in Tampa, this is a brand new team what is doing great. You hear Rodney Marsh talking on local chat radio stations about the now team, as R.M. was one of the founding players for the old team.
They play at the George Stienbrenner field, which is the home of the New York Yankees spring training baseball complex, and my guess is they are owned by the Yankees.
Someone earlier spoke of the oil on Florida beaches, just for an FYI, so far the oil is not here on our coast, which I'm pleased about as I live a 5 minute walk to this beach.....
Let me just add, it kills me to follow the Rowdies as they play in.... yes, yellow and green :(

Does Rodney Marsh still play for them? Perhaps Foley can teach him keepy-uppy?
