Clegg on Town Stand at Suffolk Show
Clegg on Town Stand at Suffolk Show
Wednesday, 26th May 2010 19:24

Town will have their usual stand at the Suffolk Show on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd June. Current and former players will drop by throughout the two days, as will chief executive Simon Clegg.

The stand, number 671, will include a theatre area for various guests in addition to the usual retail section. Chief executive Simon Clegg will be interviewed in the theatre area, answering fans’ questions, while groundsman Alan Ferguson will also be questioned on his field of expertise.

Bluey will also be present, while Crazee's Shoot Out competition will provide the chance to win Town merchandise.

If anyone speaks to Clegg, please urge him to reduce ticket prices. With my season ticket I pay under £21-a-match, but a casual supporter turning up on the day in my block could pay £35! Not only does this result in poor attendances, I believe it cuts off our supply of future season ticket holders. I have written to Clegg on this issue, and he responded promptly generally disagreeing with me that lower prices would benefit the club but hopefully he will change his mind.

It would also be interesting to know whether the club really intends to spend big and push for promotion in 2010/11. The bookies have us as 6th favourites to win the league (Middlesbrough are favourites)! There is no Newcastle or WBA to worry about next season and the clubs coming down are in financial trouble, so will we push on and really go for promotion? It was very clearly our aim a year ago, but it seems to have been watered down to "competing for play-offs" in recent comments from Clegg and Keane.

Ticket prices! I agree wholeheartedly with Mark above. I've also spoken to Clegg about this and got the same answer. I am not a businessman, but I am not convinced. I think we need more lower ticket-pricing initiatives to get the crowds back to Portman Road. So if you are at the show and agree with Mark & myself, have a word with Mr Clegg and see if you can add weight to our argument.

They ought to try a 'better football' initiative or a 'play 2 up front at home' strategy. That usually gets the crowds up!
