Colchester Could Still Target Lisbie
Colchester Could Still Target Lisbie
Sunday, 4th Jul 2010 21:16

Colchester boss John Ward says he would like Town striker Kevin Lisbie to return to the Essex club next season but is concerned that he may not get the chance to speak to the 31-year-old before he joins another side. Lisbie spent last season on loan at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, having joined the Blues from the U's for £750,000 in July 2008.

Ward said: “Kevin Lisbie is talking to other clubs. Whether we get to speak to him is in the balance at the moment.”

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett reiterated his interest in the former Charlton man earlier in the week, while Lisbie himself says he would like to find a Championship club if possible.

Meanwhile, Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says he still has high hopes for ex-Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos, despite the Mexican's lack of involvement in his first two seasons at White Hart Lane: "If he could pass a nightclub as well as he can pass a ball he would be all right. His mum and dad came over to see me last year and apologised because they realised he wasn’t dedicated. He’s got bags of ability and fantastic skill.

"Suddenly, he was late on Monday mornings - upset stomach - he’d probably been in Barcelona partying somewhere. He’s had a great World Cup. If he knuckles down this year he could be a top player. He’s a nice kid and I hope he keeps his head down and gets on with the job."

Dos Santos himself, who has been linked with the likes of Benfica, Deportivo La Coruña, Genoa and former loan side Galatasaray this summer, says he’d like to stay in London: "During my time at Spurs I just haven't had any luck. There have been injury setbacks, difficulties adapting and few chances from the coach.

"But I feel I have matured and I am still very ambitious. When I left Barcelona my dream was to be a success in the Premier League - and I still think that is possible.”

If Lisbie is speaking to clubs (the more the better, there might even be a fee involved!) then he should be on the move pretty soon, which will be best for all parties. Shame he couldn't replicate his goalscoring form for Colchester at Ipswich, otherwise history might have been very different...

It must be hard for Colchester to contact Lisbie when his phone is always engaged due to all this interest in him. Would a club just come forward and take him off our hands please, sign him on a free transfer not a loan!

As for Dos Santos, if a miracle happened and he did come to Ipswich Keane would not pick him if he turns up late for training.

Gosh the news is quiet. A week into pre-season training and only 34 days until the new season starts. When is the first of the five signings that Keane wants going to arrive? We are falling behind as other clubs are buying players. I see Middlebrough are getting Kris Boyd, a 26-year-old who is Scottish Premier League's all-time top scorer!!

What a joke John Ward must be to have a player in the squad on loan all year and then let them slip without "speaking to them"... pathetic bleating.

I see Lisbie as the first of the 8 listed to go. Also I think Bruce and Garvan and may be Stead can find new teams but for the others - they will stay. Nobody will be able to pay the wages of Counago let go these crazy 12K for Martin... Hope that if 3 are on their way out we will have money to spend for new players!

How was that supposed to happen? Aidy Boothroyd was manager, he left after the season finished to go to Coventry. At which point, John Ward was made manager. What was he supposed to do, start having words with Lisbie before he became manager, just in case?

Should Alan Curbishley be having words with Pablo right now, telling him he would like him to stay at Town, for when he becomes manager in a couple of months?!

mistleyblue... Pretty much what i said on another thread... Keane identified two players, got agreements for them to sign, then Evans and Clegg get involved and it all goes pear shaped! I think you might find the issue is the Evans World Cup Corporate Ticket fiasco, where it became apparent Evans was putting together corporate packages on an unofficval basis... which given the money grabbing theme of FIFA/Bloater (Sorry did I missspell the FIFA presidents name?) is against the rules. It was reported in the National Press that 1,000 tickets for one of the second round games were given away to locals as they had mysteriously become vacant after FIFA realised they were Evans unoffical Corporate deals... so how much has that cost Evans and therefore what effect has that had on our ability to sign new players... I don't think you can blame Keane on these two "failed" signings at all.

By the way, love Harry Redknapp's qoute about if Dos Santos could pass a nightclub like he could pass a ball... another Harry classic!

Oh yes and if we get a bottle of water and a bag of crisps for Lisbie it would be good business. He has no desire to play for this Club and therefore I have no desire for us to pay his wages... He was given more than a good chance in the first team by Magilton and failed... you are the weakest link... goodbye!
