Newcastle Land Perch
Newcastle Land Perch

Reported Town target James Perch is set to join newly-promoted Newcastle United after the Magpies and Nottingham Forest agreed an undisclosed fee. The Blues were claimed to have had a £750,000 offer for the 24-year-old turned down last month.

Newcastle targeted Perch, who will sign a four-year deal at St James’ Park, in January, but were rebuffed by Forest, who described their initial offer as "derisory".

Town’s apparent interest in the versatile defender or midfielder may have come from coach Ian McParland having worked with Perch during his spell at the City Ground.

Meanwhile, various sources are reviving May’s link with exiting Newcastle midfielder Nicky Butt. Roy Keane’s former Manchester United team-mate was mentioned in connection with the Blues at the end of last season, but the Town boss dismissed the claims.

Blackpool are the latest club said to be after the former England man with Preston having previously been believed to have shown interest.

Why would anyone moan about this?? Would be a real coup for the club if we could get him in for a year or two.

Perch are always notourisously difficult to land! in truth do we want/need a versatile defender/midfileder? I'd rather spend the money on a specialist. Think about it, his versitility costs that bit more, yet he can't play in more than one position at a time, so why not spend the same money on a specialist in one of the positions we need filling... Just a thought.

I am wondering how many moans we could have.....

1)lost out on another player(perch)
2) keane targetting unrealistic signings shows lack of nouce(perch)
3) once again the fact its a player recommended by a town coach shows his lack of personal knowledge
4) targetting a player well past his best
5) we need a creative force in the middle not another steady eddie
6) keane only signs, irish players, ex team mates or players he's managed
7) shows ME isn't fully behind keane
please feel free to add and see how big we can make the list

Evidently PERCH cited the reason he didnt join Town was the fact that the so-called supporters kept CARPING on about the same old s*it all the time.
He felt happier in a PLAICE where the fans got behind the player and manager.

@ Monkey_Blue

Q:1)lost out on another player(perch) ----->
A: You dont know if we lost out as you dont know if we really did try and get him or not plus he might have been awfull so you dodnt know if we are missing out or if its a good thing he is not coming to us

Q: 2) keane targetting unrealistic signings shows lack of nouce(perch)---->
A: Again you dont know if we were trageting him or who else we have targeted plus they might not be unrealistic when we target them..(interest from other clubs might be non exsistant when we enquire)

Q: 3) once again the fact its a player recommended by a town coach shows his lack of personal knowledge---->
A: It is guessed that interest comes from mcparland recommending him you dont know its true and in what world does any manager only look at his own targets you tart! LOL there would be no jobs for scouts if that were true..you use every resource you have.

Q: 4) targetting a player well past his best---
A: Again you assume that its true we are targetting Butt? and even then the interest is in a player/coach role from what i remember and mowbry was past his best when he got us promoted.

Q: 5) we need a creative force in the middle not another steady eddie--->
A: no one says we arent also targeting a creative force in the middle.

Q: 6) keane only signs, irish players, ex team mates or players he's managed---->
A: This is just petty and childish obviously he does not...how ever god they have been Priskin,Martin,Begovic,Rossenior, dont fit into any of those catergories.

Q: 7) shows ME isn't fully behind keane --->
A: How could you possibly even guess that let alone know it?

Any other rediculous non educated points/questions you want to make that are easilly answered feel free.

completely agree blue knight. it seems all some people want to do is piss and moan. there is a big difference between having an opinion and having something interesting to say. people always defend their entitlement to an opinion, doesn't mean its right or even interesting. ive got opinions about my wife's cooking, doesn't mean i know anything about food, and, for the sake of my marriage ill keep telling her i love it.

im not trying to say dont give your opinion if its negative, again, thats your right. but please dont be under the illusion that your not talking out of your backside. it seems some people just cant wait for keane to fail, just so they can say i told you so...how sad...but then if thats how you want to support your football club then go right ahead my friend.

oh, and...thats just my opinion!

All I can say is that it's no surprise that we haven't signed a player. And because of that we are looking at one of Keano's old mates who is well past it. Didn't Keane sign Andy Cole at Sunderland to give himn a last good signing on fee? Another pathetic day at Ipswich then.....

injuredanimal, you are going to be the BUTT of a lot of jokes for your observations.

I think its much more interesting picking players based on their names rather than their playing abilities. Kostas Katsouranis (Greek midfield) is my current favorite!

Perch's choice - a newly promoted Prem club who can offer higher wages or us... if we had even actually put an offer on the table.

Hardly a tough decision and the same one most players would make - hardly Keane / Cleggs fault.

I think as others have suggested, Perch doesn't net many, but would have been a good signing, like John Scales. But I think we may have been kippered on the price.
