Town Announce Squad Numbers
Town Announce Squad Numbers
Thursday, 8th Jul 2010 10:44

Striker Connor Wickham has been handed the number nine shirt for the 2010/11 season. The 17-year-old takes Pablo Couñago’s number with the Spaniard one of several players who have been moved out of the ‘first 11’.

Aside from Couñago, Alex Bruce goes from being Town’s number five to 21 and Owen Garvan switches from seven to 17. All three were amongst the eight players recently made available by the Blues, with only Lee Martin from that list getting a number between one and 11, picking up the final shirt.

There are various other moves with skipper Jon Walters going to number 10, David Norris switching to eight, Damien Delaney to five, Shane O’Connor to three, Jaime Peters to two and Brian Murphy to one. Kevin Lisbie gets 33.

Given the players we have made available, the first XI makes perfect sense. All except Martin. I would have expected Priskin to be number 11.

MURPHY
PETERS/McAULEY/DELANEY/O'CONNOR
EDWARDS/NORRIS/LEADBITTER
WALTERS/PRISKIN/WICKHAM

An obvious 'on your bike' to Pabs and Garv then with the number demotions!

RK must have OCD or something - nice and neat looking squad numbers wise with nobody left in doubt as to who the current 1-11 are!

Martin 11 instead of Civelli seems the only talking point perhaps?

So all the people with 'reliable sources' who said Wickham was sold to Spurs yesterday were off the mark. Thank God. The no.9 shirt wouldn't be his if he were leaving.

I don't think it is a bad thing for Garvan and Pabs. I think Keane has realised, if no-one buys, he won't be able to. He needs to motivate Garvan especially because of his apparent attitude problems. This, is hopefully, going to spur Garvan to putting more in. And Priskin not getting one will spur him as he knows he is not 1st choice.
I may be wrong, but if I am correct, Keane is doing the right thing.

"GlenPennyfather" Why Priskin he is rubbish i know you want our moneys worth out of him but you are never going to get that so just leave him out all together, Good to see Wickham with the 9 shirt going to be a big season for him we all hope

I think priskins would work well as part of a front 3, with him and Walters supplying Wickham.

Come on Keano, 4-2-3-1 would work.

Murphy

Peters MacAuley Delaney Oconnor

Leadbitter Norris

Edwards Walters Priskin (Hopefully Civelli will come good)

Wickham

Who will take the number 11 shirt when Wickham is sold to Sunderland or Spurs?? Hopefully Reggie Lambe !!!!

Elvis - Id imagine Martin would keep the 11 shirt given that scenario.

Why bother giving lazy Lisbie a squad number at all?

When you see the squad written down like that, we do not have strength in depth defensively, especially if Alex Bruce leaves. I do hope that letting David Wright go doesn't come back to haunt us.

I am genuinely excited by that.

Lets assume that some of the 'reject 8' are going to feature as they are not all going to be sold or replaced. They now know they are not wanted, have crap squad numbers etc. Maybe we could also put red crosses on the heads or something! But when they are required, as they obviously will be, what kind of performance can we expect. More quality management from the sage in charge!

Keane has screwed up big time (again). The squad could be down to the bare bones assuming we sell the dross he has transfer listed. I don't see any new arrivals with no gaps in the squad numbers either. Once Wickham and McAuley are sold and the inevitable injuries/suspensions occur, we will really be struggling. Pablo's knee is dodgy also and if Priskin and Martin lose (more) form. Yikes !!!! Just hope Keano realises he is crap and walks before he drags us down to his level.

Bit early releasing the squad numbers isn't it?

Does this mean that there are going to be no major signings?..that Roy's happy with his first 11?

I bet the parents that have forked out to get a printed shirt for their children are dead chuffed the numbers have been changed.

With such large squad rotation, the numbers are irrelevant these days anyway so why bother?

Seeing the full squad listed like that I can't help but think it just looks very weak!
Another season of mediocrity at best.

No gaps left for any new signings I see! Not a good sign, anyone else see that other than Portsmouth & Hull we are the only other team in the championship not to have brought anyone else in now!

Agree with blue floyd about even giving Lisbie a squad number, seems rather pointless.

Good point Yorkshire Blue. I want a shirt with a name on the back but I was waiting until we signed an exciting new player. However, the shirt will be out of date by the time we sign someone so I just bought a new cape instead. Keane out !!!!

at the end of the day it's important to remember that squad numbers dont mean much these days, ul never find a team that has 1 to 11 as their shirt numbers anyway, I therefore think that people seeming to be over analysing this at the moment, ok so pablo has lost the number 9 shirt, will it matter to him what number shirt he wears? if anything it is just a gimmick for the fans, who will have to change shirt name and number on their shirts etc.
