Youngsters Jack Ainsley (pictured), Reggie Lambe, Ian McLoughlin and Troy Brown have put pen to paper on their one-year contract extensions. Last week, full-back Shane O’Connor signed his new two-year deal.

Felixstowe-born defender Jack Ainsley and Bermudian international winger Reggie Lambe made their first team debuts in the Carling Cup at Shrewsbury last season, while defender Troy Brown, who joined the Blues from Fulham after a trial last summer, made his first senior appearance as a sub on the final day of last season against Sheffield United.

Irish U19 international keeper McLoughlin joined the Blues 18 months ago from Dublin side St Francis.

You'll be lucky Ainsley may be cute, but he is not good enough and Lambe is very poor indeed.

Didn't go no, seen him play a few times for the ressies and he's always looked ok at that level, but no promise that he could step up a level.

Is this actually the youngest Ipswich squad ever??

I work out the average age as in the low 20's! Good for the future but a bit of a concern for the present!

I wouldn't worry about it, the 4 players mentioned here are unlikely to ever feature in the 1st team (IMHO).

We release younger players - people moan. We sign younger players up - people moan. Can someone please tell me what the club can do to make you happy?!!!

Spot on jas0999... I agree, whatever we do it isn't good enough for some, but maybe that's a little of "The grass is always greener" syndrome... Some of the youngsters we have let go recently haven't been up to too much to be honest, Haynes as quoted above in particular... lots of pace. (Notice full stop, that's it!) The only recent one I wish hadn't gone is Rhodes... he really wasn't given the chance he should have been, but that probably had more to do with his Dad pushing for him to be included too much and Jim therefore being totally stubbon and not playing him! I think RK may privately regret letting him go... but that must be down to the other coaches as no way RK could have made a decision on his ability the short time he'd been with us, he must have taken advice...

Agree with you wallingford. Ive seen them plenty of times for the reserves. Non are good enough and therefore a waste of a years wages . Sorry but thats the truth of it.

reserve matches are nothing to go by only people who have some strange obsession for watching the reserves often are tapped enough to think most of the players are good... i remember watching reserve football on a regualr basis years ago and thinkgin justin miller sean friars and stuart niven were gods look what happend to those wasters... and thats when the reserve league was worth being in.

Pimsnumber1 answer me this simple question.. Why would keane give 4 lads another year when he could of easily saved wages to bring a new player in?

From what I've seen, Brown & Lambe won't be good enough.

I agree Jas .......... just no pleasing some people.

OK so they may not turn out not to be good enough, but one of may come good and at least Keane is doing the decent thing in giving them one more year to prove themselves.

One thing is for certain, if one leaves and starts getting rave reviews for a new club, we would not hear the last of of it on this site.

Tis far cheaper to offer extensions to youngsters in the hope that 1-2 of them push on than to spend money on tranfer fees, agent fees and high salaries. What is plainly evident is ME is not going to open the Chequebook until we have shifted some (which could take a while IMO)

Good luck to they lads, the reserve team level is no way to judge if they can perform at 1st team level, throwing them in for a few championship games will tell you if they are good enough or not which these 4 lads havent had that chance yet. its pleasing to have a local (felixstowe) lad at the club!

There are many things about the club I'm not especially happy with at the moment, but as regards these youngsters, it seems to be a case of "damned if you do and damned if you don't." Many people have been bemoaning the lack of young players coming through: well, here are 4 of them. Let's give them all a chance and our support. The whole point about young players is that they are not the finished article; they develop at different rates. If only one of these four go on to make it as a first team regular, it will all have been worthwhile. And Joe Public always has a soft spot for the home-grown player. For these reasons, I'm backing the Ipswich yoofs!

I agree as well... if just one makes it as a first team regular, then it's been worth it. One thing with RK is I believe he will use a player regardless of age if he thinks he's good enough... I wonder what Warky is doing these days?
