Swansea Refuse to Rule Out Priskin Move
Swansea Refuse to Rule Out Priskin Move
Thursday, 22nd Jul 2010 09:07

New Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers has neither confirmed nor denied reports linking him with Town striker Tamás Priskin. The 23-year-old Hungarian international enjoyed his best spell in English football playing under Rodgers at Watford, earning him last summer’s £1.7 million move to Portman Road.

Asked about the links with Priskin, Rodgers said: “He is a player that I worked with at Watford and he scored a lot of goals for me. He is a talent.

“He is one of a number of players that will be linked with Swansea because of their association with me. He is a good player, but he is an Ipswich player.”

The ex-Reading boss says he will be looking to make signings before the season starts: “I am working on getting some players in. Not many though. There are certain players who fit the type here.

“We have got a really strong squad and, if we keep the players here, which we are confident of doing, then it just needs two or three new faces to brighten up the place. That’s something we are looking at and there are a couple of things bubbling along. Hopefully we can get the result.”

Meanwhile, Town's U18s are in action this evening in their annual fixture against Southwold Town (KO 6.30pm). The friendly will be played on Southwold Common.

Elsewhere, former Blue Billy Clarke will miss the first three months of Blackpool's Premier League season with a knee injury.

Ignore my first one (should have read it). Good luck Priskin.
Good to get some wages off our backs for a striker. eg chopra.
I hope we can re-coup a bit of money around £1m. If it has to be a loan then, lets hope he becomes good so he will be worth good money or he can do a job for us.

Sounds fairly promsing to me. Still think he's a decent player (you don't become a poor one overnight), but it simply hasn't worked out.

Don't think this is a done deal. As Rodgers says - “He is one of a number of players that will be linked with Swansea because of their association with me. He is a good player, but he is an Ipswich player.”

How many times have we seen a player linked with Keane not materialise...?

Would like to see him get a run in the side and do well for us. I can't see keano letting him go for peanuts after spending 1.7m and not giving him the greatest of opportunities, sometimes it can take a player a season to settle.

Perhaps it needs a decent Manager to get the best out of him jas0999?
If he went for £1M then that is pretty poor business, spending £1.7M on him, hardly play him, loan him out - sell him, mmmm! If selling him means M.E. / Clegg can agree Chopra's terms then worth while exercise.

osbourne1nil - possibly, or perhaps he just didn't settle? It's all very easy to blame Roy for everything. Should we blame Jim for not getting the best out of Lisbie? Alex Ferguson for not getting the best out of Berbatov? Benitiz for not getting the best out of Robbie Keane? Perhaps these players simply didn't settle? Just a thought.

Fact is there's so many players that have been disappointing that yes we can blame keane for it because he is who is meant to get the team playing good footy

Jas0999 - totally agree. ChambersM - ... er, the players. They get paid a decent whack to do a decent job. End off. By their own admittance last season they fell short of that. Its not like they've said "we played our b**locks off all last season". Once on the field, the captain and rest of the player should do their job, no matter whether they agree or like their orders. Guess we'll never know if they've done them but sounds like not to me.

Rodgers is just being polite and professional. What he really means is "He's a nice lad but a shocking footballer. Can't believe I got 1.7m out of Ipswich for him just 'cos he scored a couple of penalties two years ago. Best bit of business I ever did!"

I read about Clarke and had trouble computing that Billy Clarke is now a premier league player and will be a great loss to his team... That happened fast, didn't it?

Sell him only if Chopra or better is inbound.. Please.

Would be interesting, sort of, to know how many games Billy has played for Blackpool as it seems he is a bit sick note prone like he was for us. Poor lad.

don't get too excited, remember this time last year they couldn't afford Pablo's wages

you must have had too much of that cr@p lager they were selling outside the ground - he was dreadful in Holland, not interested, no effort.

I despair with the "manager ??" we have at the moment . I say at the moment as I hope it will soon pass. Tamas Priskin is a young, talented, International player who has not had the chance or support from the manager to bring out the best in him . Keane has the knack of destroying players' talents . It is appalling what has happened to our great club . I await Keane's departure so we can slowly start to rebuild and become the well- thought of , respected and proud club that ITFC used to be.

I went to the PNE away game - I could have played better than Priskin that day. See you - and surely he'll score against us at Portman RD...
