Keane: Town Closing in On Signings
Keane: Town Closing in On Signings
Friday, 23rd Jul 2010 12:09

Town boss Roy Keane says the Blues have had an offer accepted for a player and could have as many as three new additions to the squad, one a loanee, in time for the friendly against West Ham a week on Saturday. So far, the only signing of the summer is youngster Conor Hourihane, who joined from Sunderland last week.

Keane told the club site: "I was hoping that we could have got a couple of players in earlier but things take time in football and I've not been too worried about it.

"We are making progress now though, and we've had one offer accepted for a player this morning, so I've got to try and finalise things with that.

"We are close on that deal and with another player, which will be a year-long loan.

"There could also be movement with another player coming in as well, so I'll be talking to two or three players over the next few days.

"The players concerned include two that I had in mind at the end of last season. I had a target list of four or five players and, while you rarely get all five, if I get two out of the five I will be pleased.

"Until the players are here and have signed though, there is nothing to get excited about."

The permanent signing may be Sunderland keeper Márton Fülöp, who Black Cats boss Steve Bruce, presumably speaking yesterday, has confirmed was the subject of a Town enquiry.

The Blues and Cardiff have been unable to agree a fee for striker Michael Chopra, although the Bluebirds may ultimately have decided to accept an offer for the former Sunderland striker given their ongoing financial problems and the frontman's outburst regarding their current situation. Cardiff central defender Gábor Gyepes has also been linked in recent days.

Possible loan signings mooted this summer include Tottenham winger Andros Townsend. The second permanent signing Keane mentions could potentially be free agent Steve Finnan, who was linked last week.

Encouraging at long last!

I saw on Sky this morning that Fergie is willing to let Welbeck & Cleverly go out on loan-please let it be one of those!

I would say the accepted offer is that for Martin Fulop, as for the other potential signings-Chopra or Finnan perhaps?

Do some of you lot actually sit by your computers waiting for any comment from Keane in order to put a negative spin on it? It is very predictable. God knows what frenzy you will be in the 1st time we lose a point!!

I hope it is like DanLyles said - Chopra and Finnan as permanents, then 1 of Andros Townsend, Wellbeck or Cleverley as the loanee
As we need to snap up Finnan before someone else does and Chopra would be great here. Things are begining to shape up. If these deals go through + wages are agreed.

This is what we all expect - some movement. I don't know who the three are but hopefiully one of them is a striker and a good one too. I wish good luck to Keane during these coming days because he will need that. It is never sure until the player actually put a pen into paper!

They are League One fodder coming in for a 9 month Championship tour haha! Lets face it the permanent signing probably is Fulop. He's a top keeper in the Begovic calibre. Good stuff! Not sure it will be the spurs lad though as 'Arry still is yet to conclude his business for Spurs. Is this boy were linked with any good?
