Stead Set for Blackpool
Stead Set for Blackpool
Wednesday, 28th Jul 2010 17:21

Town striker Jon Stead is reported to be in talks with Premier League new boys Blackpool. Stead is believed to have turned down the chance to join Bristol City, the Blues having agreed a fee of £200,000 with the Robins.

The 27-year-old was amongst the eight players the Blues made available for transfer earlier in the summer and almost joined former loan club Coventry but that deal fell down when manager Chris Coleman was sacked.

Blackpool are short on strikers having been unable to do a deal with Leicester for ex-loanee DJ Campbell and with former Town frontman Billy Clarke ruled out for the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

personally, i think stead should stay, he always puts a good shift in, fair enough i expect its yet another clash of attitudes with keano, but i thought managers were about the team not his pride!!!!

So R.Wright, D.Wright, Balkestein, Trotter, Bruce, Garvan, Lisbie & Stead all but gone now. Surely that has more than freed up enough wages for Keane to get in some signings.

No more excuses from the club, we must start signing players now!

Good move for Stead by the way if he pulls it off.

Posted earlier that I thought we should keep him with Connor injured...

...however, I've never seen him give less than 100% in a Town shirt, so I wouldn't begrudge him a crack at the Premier League.

If the deal goes through, I'll wish him well (and hope that RK has a suitable replacement up his sleeve!)

Explains why he hasn't signed for Bristol City. I like Stead; a good hardworking pro.

Well done Keano.

More dross on their way out.

Keep up the good work.

Let's hope Keane doesn't (virtually) give away the whole squad and then realise he can't get any replacements.

So who does this leave up front? Priskin and Counago only? We need two if not three new strikers now!!

Not good enough for a championship team, but good enough for a premier league side, strange that,

Clarke and Stead knocking knocking them in for Blackpool in the Prem would be the final nail in Keane's coffin.

Bristol City to Blackpool.... not much difference!!

Brendanh - Clarke's all but out for the season.

I think we should keep Stead, unless as said, Keane has someone lined up. Here's hoping.

I know everyone keeps saying money has been freed from the wage bill. But nothing has changed really since we let Wright etc go.

Kennedy and Houline has signed and Lisbie has gone out on loan

Stead was signing for Coventry then Bristol and now Blackpool, Bruce was Sheff U and now Leeds. Garvan is in talks. They are still on the club's wage bill till they sign for another club.
If they all go and we sign a Choppra and Finnan the wage bill will be the same or even possible higher.
If the club want to reduce the wage bill are we really going to sign anyone? just a thought.

its not just about the wage bill though - its about culling dead wood , and getting in a better quality of player.

The wages would be greatly reduced as you have failed to list all the oher players that have already left

Trotter
D Wright
R Wright
Rosenior
Pim

Does anybody feel optimistic about the new season????
I can only see a relegation fight on our hands and this time we might not escape.

Wow. I am not sure that this says anything new about us, but what does it say about Blackpool's chances of survival? Can't afford DJ Campbell, but can afford Stead. They are clearly taking the old Charlton route: get promotion, accept relegation, with the plan to rebound stronger. Sensible: get the stadium paid for and play the long game.

On top of all this goings on they might accept the offer for Walters from QPR OF 2.5 mill, just read it in the Evening Star !!!

Could be worse.... Portsmouth only have 15 players, none of which are goalkeepers hahahaha

Well, this is interesting. A premiership club is keen on Steady but we are not?! Anyways it is obvious Keane is getting rid of Stead wherever he meets him so it is better for both parties if he goes. But I hope Keano has a striker in mind because if Stead goes we are without strikers at all. And I don't want to see Priskin and Counago playing in the first team!!!
Jason Scotland is available on a long season loan - get him!!!
