Walters Again Linked With Stoke
Walters Again Linked With Stoke
Wednesday, 28th Jul 2010 23:43

Stoke City are again reported to be ready to make a move for Blues skipper Jon Walters. The Potters were linked with the 26-year-old in 2008, although never got as far as making a bid, and again earlier in the summer.

Walters, who was in tonight’s team at Bury, has been strongly tipped for a move away from Portman Road this summer with QPR also understood to be interested.

Meanwhile, former Blue Andy Marshall is on trial at Charlton Athletic having been released by Aston Villa at the end of the season. Marshall has recently been training with Colchester.

Ship him out while we can. As soon as Walters gets out of the team the better, will stop us playing that shocking long ball football.

Even tho I don't rate Walters highly. He does have a good work effort and I don't think we shall sell untill we bring in a replacement or a couple of right backs so Peters and Edwards can player right midfield.
But I'm not sure I trust Keane with the money anymore as its so close to kick off the season and it will probably be a panic buy.
Surely we have saved enough wages for Kennedy and a couple of other signing.

Evans here is a way of saving a fortune on wages. Stop paying Clegg!!!!!
Surely between you and Keane you can sort out deals. Clegg hasn't done anything except sign a letter that came in the Packet with Season ticket/ renewals.

make no mistake, selling walters will be of huge detriment to our side. he was so commited to the cause last season, played out of position more often then not and was asked to play nearly all game every game. in a woeful side he still managed to score a respectable total of 8 goals. this shows his worth, above all else he is our captain. allow him to play in his favoured position in a team playing well and with confidence and you will see him revitalised and back to his best. this is why other teams want him. selling walters would be a huge mistake, normally these things are a matter of opinion and open for debate but in walters case it is a no-brainer, saying he should go illurstrates a real lack of knowledge about football. why cant people see that selling our captain, who is so integral to the team and the way we want to play, who represents what we should be about as a football club is unthinkable? and what for? to cash in on him and secure an extra 2.5 million in the bank? who do you think we would be able to get who is any better? would try as hard? and would not cost an arm and a leg in terms of a transfer fee and presumably high wages.

we must not sell, that is plainly obvious. it astonishes me that people want walters out. simply ridiculous.

Walters will not be allowed to leave as Keane see him a major part in the team.
Walters is comitted to the team and even played when not fully fit.if there was any chance that he was going he would not have played tonight in case he got injured.
If a bid had been put in for two and a half million we would have taken it if we wanted to get rid of him. So not bid has come in and if it has we have turned it down. We don't need to sell as the Wickham saga proves.we will only sell the players Keane fells can be replaced or add no value to the team.

would be aloos, but not a huge one. The long ball game has become ridiculous, all we do is punt it down field hoping he'll get on the end of it, we don't play football when he's out on the right. He also offers no width, he comes infield all game long offering nothing down the right wing which is why david wright pushed forward so much. Up front he doesn't have much to offer, a good head and a bit of strength. But you can't falter the shift he puts in, if we could get something between £1 to £2 mil for him that would be good business, as long as we buy in a good winger and a striker.

Mightytown you are on a wind up surely? If you are serious the only one showing lack of Football knowledge is yourself. The 'no-brainer' about this is that if we are offered anything over 1.5m he should be sold immediately.

Walters 'integral to the way we want to play' ? well if you like hoofball then yes but not if you like to see proper football at Portman Rd. It is all very well saying he is our Captain and he tries hard, I could run around and try hard but that doesn't make me good enough. He can't dribble, can't cross, has no pace, I could go on. Are you seriously suggesting that you couldn't find a better player out there for 2.5m? Dont make me laugh!

Walters MUST stay.
An indifferent last season, but how soon we forget how he simply romped to 2 player of the year awards in the previous years.
The thing that has been lacking from Ipswich teams in recent years is heart, and he has lots of it, and that's why we love him

Must keep him! It would be the biggest hammer blow to our lightweight squad.

brogansnose added 08:11 - Jul 29
Interesting that the 2 managers linked with him see him as the ideal player for that long ball, hold up rubbish. Now i can see at times it can be useful as another tactic to break teams down but not if its done continously, like us, or if you don't rush up to support him, like we don't. Can't fault the blokes commitment and work rate and leads from the front. If he stays just use him better.

when did he win 2 player of year awards in 2 seasons? he been here 3 years now, & 4 2 of those hes been appalling.as ive said b4 , he typical of a player moving up 2 a higher level, has 1 good year, as trying 1 prove himself, then drop bck 2 his true level. dont get me wrong, i not against him staying but frankly, if we being offered that kind of money, we shld snap their hands off, over 2m profit? go 2wards a quality striker. as 4 his captaincy, havent seen him do nething id expect frm a captain, jst working hard not make a gud captain

Definitely wouldn,t sell him. A lot of the 'hoofball' we played last year was cos our crowd are such w***ers the players became paranoid on the ball and just seemed to want to get rid asap in case they made a mistake and a few thousand tw*ts started getting on their backs. The complete silence that greeted McCauleys name when the team sheet was read out in the early part of last season is one of the most disgraceful things i have heard at a football ground.

I don't know what to think anymore! Roy, your'e like a wife, you mess with our heads but we still can't help loving you even though everything you seem to do makes little sense. But i do hope that 'i told you so' will put an end to my confusion!

In two minds on this one... If he can get back to his old form... don't sell, if he can't and is only as good as last year, £2.5M is a lot of money for him. Problem is, I don't have a crystal ball to see hwich way he will go this season. I'd probably keep him if for no other reason than I don't see Edwards pulling up trees and we don't have another recognised right midfielder of any note.

The talks about Walters are strange to me. I think they are more of unrealistic rumours but who knows... My view of the matter is we can live perfectly without Walters so if somebody give us a good pile of cash I'd say - take him! But I am sure Keane values Walters a lot more so...

If Notts Forest think whittingham at cardiff is worth 1.5 million scored 20 plus last season then bite there hands off and take the 2.5 million,
Walters is not worth that comparing these two players over last two seasons.

@ harry palmer - read my post again. in fact, read most other posts on here regarding walters being sold, everybody can clearly see that selling walters is a no brainer, it should not happen. you are quite clearly in the minority and so im afriad it is you that doesnt know what he's talking about.

if your so adamant we could easily replace him for 2.5 million, feel free to suggest someone who we could realistically sign, who wouldnt be out of our reach in terms of our wage structure. we would not just being replacing a right midfeilder but a figurehead of our team, a talisman if you like. any serious suggestions? dont forget we signed carlos edwards for a large amount of money and he hasnt come anywhere near pushing wlaters out of the side. his worth is not only in his work rate but his influence on the team and in the dressing room. we played badly as a team last season, no player was exceptional, yet walters was still one of our best and most consistent performers. where would we have finished without his goals last season?

your assesment of walters ability is massively inaccurate and your argument of 'I could run around and try hard but that doesn't make me good enough' is completely beside the point. of course you would never be good enough, otherwise you would be a professional footballer, at some level, but your not. Walters has shown his class and ability in the past and not finding top form in a struggling side is not an indicator of a bad player.

If he was a bad player then other teams wouldnt be trying to sign him, especially not premier league stoke. tony pulis obviously realises walters ability and can see that in a better team, where he is not relied upon so heavily that he would be a fine acquisition to their side.

I would imagine you read my post and saw 'saying he should go illurstrates a real lack of knowledge about football' and realising this refered to you, you felt a little peeved which explains your post, which is to be fair, absolute drivel.

you wont get anywhere selling your best players and walters is clearly one of our best. sorry mate but your talking nonsense.
