Bruce Targeting Another Play-Off Campaign With Leeds
Bruce Targeting Another Play-Off Campaign With Leeds
Thursday, 29th Jul 2010 16:16

Exiting defender Alex Bruce says he is targeting another play-off campaign with Leeds this season, having reached the top six with former loan side Leicester last season. Bruce is expected to complete a move to the Elland Road club before the weekend with a fee of £200,000, plus another £100,000 on appearances, having been agreed yesterday.

Bruce, who came close to joining Sheffield United over the weekend, said: “Having had a taste of the Championship play-offs last season while on loan at Leicester City this is what I am after again.

“Leeds — like Sheffield United — are a club that can provide that and, although automatic promotion is the aim, reaching the Premier League via a final at Wembley Stadium would be fantastic.”

The 25-year-old says he enjoyed his four seasons at Portman Road: “I’ve loved my time at Ipswich and can’t speak highly enough about their fans, and if the Leeds move comes off I will leave wishing Ipswich Town all the best for the future.”

Meanwhile, former Town academy striker Craig Calver, who has recently been playing for AFC Sudbury, has joined the ex-Ipswich contingent at Yeovil. Ed Upson signed for the Glovers earlier in the summer, while Dean Bowditch made the move to Huish Park a year ago.

"Leeds - like shef u - can provide that" I can't help read into that that he is implying that "Ipswich have no chance"

Good luck to him, nice of him to thank the fans, most of whom gave him the benefit of the doubt for a long time.

Time to move on now. Come on Tommy!!

No bruce actually says....“Leeds — like Sheffield United — are a club that can provide that and although automatic promotion is the aim, reaching the Premier League via a final at Wembley Stadium would be fantastic.

“I have had a taste and now I want more.

“Ipswich could have given the opportunity as well but it doesn't look as though it is going to happen.

So once again a badge kissing footballer (feigning undevoted loyalty)bad mouths the club that gave him his highly paid contract. Bruce is a two bit sunday moring league player. His "style" will certainly suit Leeds or Sheffield. Cant wait for the little tossa to play at PR this season, as he no doubt lunges recklessley in, on Connor Wickham!

Well, another one off the wage bill. So, assuming the trio discussing deals go at a rough count that's 11 out (R.Wright, D.Wright, Thatcher, Balkestein, Bruce, Trotter, Garvan, Stead; B.Murphy, D.Healy and Colback) and 2 in (Kennedy, Hourihane). I really hope the club has some aces up its sleeve for next week, otherwise we are in big trouble going into the new season.

I am afraid for some reason TWTD have NOT printed the full quote from Bruce, which will unfortuantely have the negative boys out in force claiming that Bruce thinks we have no chance of promotion blah blah blah. In fact RetroBlue has printed the correct quote - the key bit being 'Ipswich could have given the opportunity as well but it doesn't look as though it is going to happen.'. I don't think Bruce is being bitter at all and if this move comes off, it will be one of those which is good for player and club.

Good luck Alex, I wish you well, but unfortunately don't believe you are good enough for us. Just my opinion mind.

All the best Brucey! By going to leeds or would of been sheff utd you would have a better chance of success with another club at the moment than us. With the current team we have we will struggle, we will be lucky to finish midtabe in my opinion at the moment. I really think the first 6 games are going to be like cup finals for us. If we struggle and don't pick up points there will be most fans asking for changes immediatly and possibly with a new chief exec too.If i had to make a little prediction as it stands right now with no new striker e.t.c we won't be any better than last season, i hope im wrong.

What suggests we are going to do any better this year than last?

Good riddance....the reason town are where there are is through the lack of quality players like bruce.......average at best...on that note, cant see it improving anytime soon....anyone on here who think we could finish anywhere near top 6 is totally deluded...still with season ticket in hand, ill be right behind the team...now wheres that ground guide for league one.....

Im afraid for your hopes Brucey with Bambam and yourself in the heart of Leeds defence ,I wonder could I place a bet on the pair of you conceding the most penalties and getting the most cards this season.Good luck though ,too much was expected of you by Magilton and that didnt help you here
