Walters Wants Town Exit
Walters Wants Town Exit
Sunday, 1st Aug 2010 09:13

Town captain Jon Walters is reported to have asked for a transfer. The 26-year-old has been tipped for a move away from Portman Road all summer with QPR and Stoke both linked.

The former Republic of Ireland B international, who played the full 90 minutes against West Ham yesterday, is said to have made the request but is yet to formally put it in writing.

A fortnight ago, QPR were reported to have had an offer turned down by the Blues. The fee was claimed to be £2.5 million, although more recent suggestions that the bid was just over £1 million appear more realistic.

Stoke have been eyeing the striker-turned-midfielder since 2008 and were again mentioned in connection with a move last week.

Walters joined the Blues from Chester City for a fee of £100,000 plus top-ups, which would ultimately take the deal to £200,000, in January 2007.

Meanwhile, Swansea sent a scout to watch the Blues take on West Ham at Portman Road yesterday. Swans manager Brendan Rodgers is believed to be interested in Blues striker Tamás Priskin, who played under him at Watford. Rodgers is believed to have made a £400,000 initial offer to test the water.

Blues boss Roy Keane is not looking to sell Priskin and has been impressed with him in pre-season, even if the Hungarian international is yet to score.

Walters can go, Priskin can go... get a couple of quality strikers, 1 purchased and 1 on season long loan.

Would be surprised if this is true as Walters would said long before now that he wanted to go. Keane would have been looking for a replacement by now and I don't think he would be prepared to letGarvan go if that was the case. The club would have taken a million for him and Walters will be one of the clubs top earners so that would be a huge chuck off the wage bill.
He is the club captain and Roy would not have named him as captain against West ham or played him the full game in case he got injured

sell him for a decent fee to fund getting a proper goalscorer in .

walters works hard , but he is not a top goalscorer or a good wide player any more

Disappointing if true. JW has been one of the first names on the team sheet for the past few years. Would be a big loss...

Phil - can you come out and either quote the source of this information, or defend the reliability of the person that provided it?

If not, do you really think it's a good idea to post a rumour that encourages "fans" to post hateful comments towards our club captain a week before the start of the season?

Dissapointing if true, Walters is one of are most hardworking players last season and currently at the club. If he wants to go we either give him a good deal to stay or let it be. I guess walters is now in his prime and maybe wants premiership football quicker than what town can get there. If walters goes who are we going to get in?

Some of the comments on here defy belief. There has obviously been something wrong on the Walters front for some time. He sold his house in the Ipswich area in the Spring and is currently in rented accommodation. But Hell's teeth he is still an Ipswich player and has always given 100%. Why do some people suddenly feel that he warrants being treated akin to a war criminal based on a headline report that he might actually want to ply his trade somewhere else. Its a free country and if for family reasons or other reasons he has decided that its time for a change we should respect that not vilify him. He's done well for us and I'm sure that as long as he stays with us he will always give his best.

As a footnote I'm not sure I could say that about all the players we've seen over the last couple of seasons.

I suspect it is true, because he has been renting a house for a while now.
I am sure if he had the intentions of staying he would have purchased a place by now, with the summer break just finished !!!!!

not surprised. What sane footballer would want to be at Ipswich right now if there were other offers on the table. Hasn't played his best football under Keane, but who has?

I heard rumour at the Leiston game about this, an that Walters has sold his house in Ipswich.

This story is a load of s***. A short time ago walters was qouted in saying he was happy at ipswich and he does not wan't to uproot his family because they are happy here. I doubt he has changed his mind since then.

Also if he wants to go, then so be it, but don't sell him for anything less than at less 2m-2.5m

i dont think this is true, also dont think he is a very high earner.

Our best player, but stifled by having to play for a man with no brain cells. If he does go, this marks a watershed in Keane's quickly diminishing reign at Portman Road. The new manager will have a hell of a job just to keep us up this season.
