Bruce: Fülöp on Cusp of Joining Town
Bruce: Fülöp on Cusp of Joining Town
Sunday, 1st Aug 2010 10:12

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he expects Márton Fülöp’s move to Town to go through. The Hungarian international keeper has been talking personal terms with the Blues for more than a week.

Bruce says he is happy for the switch to be completed despite having a number of goalkeepers out injured at present: “Márton Fülöp is on the cusp of joining Ipswich — talks are going on chairman-to-chairman. It looks like it will go through and I’m not going to stop that one.”

Fülöp looks likely to have to take a pay-cut to join Town and the clubs may have to settle the remaining year of the 27-year-old’s Black Cats contract, with a fee of £750,000 understood to have been agreed.

This seems to be dragging out for far too long. Maybe Sunderland are trying to start a bidding war by making all this public. 750k sounds like a good bit of business, and the fact he's taking a wage cut might mean he's actually keen to play for us.

I feel a bit sorry for Murphy through all this. Given the number 1 shirt a few weeks ago and looking forward to the new season, then suddenly looking at a year in the reserves unless he puts in a transfer request (which he may well do). If Fulop signs we will have four professional goalkeepers at the club, which is strange when we are looking to save money, reduce the squad size and get rid of "dead wood".

Noooooooooo!!!!! Why waste money on a position with cover when we only have one rightback!!!!!! We need a RB, CB, CM and a few forwards

I agree, if it happens then great. Do the club think by keep putting out this drivel about some one we might sign will keep us all happy. He's nearly here, he's a but closer, and a bit more. Almost there . Fcuk sake, boring !!!

After yesterday I felt a little more upbeat but now wasting money on a goalkeeper when a right back and a striker are vital and the seemingly imminent departure of Walters it is doom and gloom again. Come on Evans, Clegg and Keane we need some good news to lift the spirits.

Well having watched Murphy, warming up where he constantly parried every shot put his way (why not practice what you should be doing , which is catching/ holding the ball)...then he did exactly the same thing for their goal , parried the shot. If you constantly practice certain "skills" thats what you will re create in the real game . Problem is a GK that constantly parries any shot in the 6 yard area will conceed a goal eventually.

Furlop is a better GK - and if he signs he will go straight in at no1

If your willing to take a pay cut to do something you love then it has to be the right deal for player it will take a bit of time. Perhaps he`s brought walters house at a good price.

Sorry mate, I really don't understand this statement... It isn't ITFC/Clegg/Evans/Keane saying this, it is Steve Bruce... you know, the manager of Sunderland. So how is it the club putting out drivel to try to keep us happy? If you look closely, the club (ITFC in this instance) haven't been talking up any transfers at all. Most of the reports on Furlop have come from Bruce and the only recent reports on Chopra have come from Jones (Manager of Cardiff), we (ITFC) have been very tight lipped about all the deals we are looking at.
So as I have said, I don't understand your post at all...

Others: The addition of a keeper who is (arguably) much better than we have can only be a good thing regardless of other areas we need to strengthen... RK has stated he wants Furlop, a midfielder to replace Garven if that deal goes through and a Striker... sounds good to me and he has also stated that with Peters and Ainsley in the squad, he isn't looking for another RB, so that pretty much covers off that. (I agree with him... I have a really good gut feeling for Peters as RB and think he will end up a decent attacking RB for ITFC.

BM has never let us down so it will be harsh on him if this goes through but if it strengthens the team we shouldn't complain. However no-one has said that this is the end of the re-building. There is no specific order in which the recruitment must happen. Goalie today; striker tomorrow; right back Wednesday. Who knows? Makes it worth checking into the site from time to time.

At the last count we had been linked with 30+ players this summer. Most were press speculation which were never going to happen. Some though like the Chopra situation have a persistant edge to them. I expect this one to happen shortly but not possibly until the end of the transfer window.

One word of caution though. This signing will not be the panacea to our problems. We may have stats showing that we had the most shots on target last season but those of us who watched games last season will know that even Rooney up top would not cure all the problems.

Still onwards and upwards

Great news.

This will give our midfield a much need creative spark and he's bound to weigh in with a few goals.

Great, imaginative scouting from Keano.

Oh I get it badger. When we sign chopra you will comment on how great it is having a dominant experienced keeper.

Dont hold your breath on Chopra. Dave Jones has said on the BBC Sports web page. That the money they have been offered for him is less than what they owe Sunderland and if they let him go they will need a replacement, so it not good business.
It is reported that they still owe Sunderland 3 Million for him, so that means we will have to offer anywhere between 4 - 5 million for him. I really cant see that happening. We will have a new striker before the Middlesbro game but cant see it being Chopra.

mripswichtown - clearly you haven't seen Murphy kick! Plus at fault yesterday. He is however okay - not great, but okay. Think you may be over egging it!
