Keane: Fülöp Saga Almost at an End
Keane: Fülöp Saga Almost at an End
Monday, 2nd Aug 2010 08:52

Boss Roy Keane says the Blues are getting nearer to completing the signing of Sunderland keeper Márton Fülöp. Town are believed to have agreed a £750,000 fee with the Black Cats with negotiations regarding the player’s contract and settling his current Sunderland terms having continued throughout last week.

Keane says the discussions, which have been held with the Wearsiders by chief executive Simon Clegg and owner Marcus Evans, are close to a conclusion: “I’m led to believe we’re getting nearer, but it has been a drawn out saga. We want to try and get Márton in because of the competition that we want to create for the goalkeepers.

”It’s no secret that we had a problem with goalkeepers last year in terms of injuries and loans and I’d like to start next weekend with three goalkeepers.

“We’ve got good goalkeepers anyway, but you have to cover yourself. You look at the position we’re in now with certain positions at the club and we are a bit short.”

Keane has previously said he will be looking for a striker with Cardiff's Michael Chopra his main target, and a central midfielder with Owen Garvan set to complete his move to Crystal Palace this morning.

Three good keepers is great... But it would be nice to have three good strikers for next weekend too, please! Come on you blues

Well, I agree that we need to cover ourselves, but three experienced goalkeepers seems a bit of a luxury. I would rather have a good cover if e.g. McAuley and peters gets injured at the same time.

Chopra won't be the striker

Dave Jones has said on the BBC web site that they have been offered less than they what they owe Sunderland and they will need a replacement and they have no money to buy one, so it makes no business sence to sell

According to reports they still owe 3 million on him and if they need money to buy a striker that means town will have to bid between 4-5 million for him

I can see that happening now tha Stead has not gone and Keane has said if Garvan goes we will need a midfielder

I can see a midfilder in before the middlesbro game and a new striker before the end of the transfer window but not Chopra

kevin Phillips saga all over again

keane has stated "again we are creating chances, but not converting them again" and he knows how important it is for us to have a good start to the season, so i would be suprised if no striker comes in before saturday.

Karlos for many of the same reasons you just stated, I'm confident that Chopra will sign. According to most other reports they owe £1.5m on him not £3m and they are making all the right noises about wanting to get the deal done: "he's happy in wales" and "we don't need to sell him" etc. The way I read the situation, we have been trying to get him for a knock down price and in the end we might have to pay £2m for him.

souper jim, the £1.5m they owe is jst the 2nd instalment of a fee believed 2 b betweeen £3.5 & £4.5m. so far they only paid £500,000 so they owe at least £3m so our offer clearly sumwhere around that mark.

Agree with you The only thing is that ME &SC are in talks with Fulop and still sorting out the Garvan deal. cant see where they will have the time to sort a deal out before Sat as the contracts seem so complecated, it took 2 weeks for Garvan to sign for Palace.

Very good point and I hope your right. If the goal is prem football with a pot of gold worth 78 Million. Chopra is someone who could help spearhead that dream, surely we wont quibble over the price too much? If they want say 3 million we will just say yes and get on with. or am i being to simple!!!!!

Sky Sports breaking news, Ipswich agree a fee for Fullop. Didn't this happen about 2 weeks ago??

SMS - yes, but he's actually at the medical stage now, so everything has been agreed and there is something concrete to report on. Looks like he will sign tomorrow.

Are Murphy and ALB experienced keepers...I would have thought not. Hope this guy Fulop is as good as some on here think??

Keane never says anything about Murphy (by name). Murphy must be gutted by this news. He was excellent for us second half. The goalkeeping crisis came to an abrupt end as soon as he signed. I wouldn't be surprised to see him looking for a transfer if Fülöp becomes the number one. A great shame, and a waste of money when it's needed elsewhere, in my opinion.

That said, wow, Fülöp is fun to type...

... we are creating chances - but not putting them away ....
... we are creating chances - but not putting them away ....

HOW MANY MORE TIMES ARE WE GOING TO HEAR THIS - OR SEE IT IN PRINT ????
- BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT ????

It must be the longest playing record of all time - without doubt.

Much talk, much print - unfortunately 'no do' - same old story, just different day.
