Keane Expecting Strong Spurs Side

Boss Roy Keane expects his team to be taking on a strong Spurs XI at Portman Road on Tuesday evening (KO 7.45pm), despite many of the Premier League side’s senior players being involved in a game against Benfica in Portugal the same night.

Keane told the club site: "Tottenham will have a strong side whatever team they bring here, no doubt about that.

"The top clubs in the Premier League have squads big enough to field two sides so it will be another good test for us.

"With the injuries we have picked up lately and with players going out of the club, I'll have to think about the make up of the team tomorrow though, and whether we should look to give some of the younger players 90 minutes.

"Senior players like Pablo, Lee Martin and Steady, who missed out against West Ham, will come into contention as well, but we have to be careful because with the number of injuries we have picked up lately. We can't afford to get any more."

Central defender Damien Delaney (thigh) is expected to be out of action for three months, striker Connor Wickham (ankle) is four or five weeks away from a return and Luciano Civelli (knee) is likely to be sidelined for another week or two.

Midfielder Alan Quinn, who hurt his groin at Leiston last Tuesday, has been told to rest for two weeks, which is hoped will avoid him requiring surgery. Colin Healy, absent for the last couple of weeks with a hamstring injury, is likely to be back in action against Spurs.

The likes of Shane O’Connor, Reggie Lambe, Ronan Murray, Jack Ainsley, Conor Hourihane, Troy Brown, Tom Eastman and Billy Clark will also probably be included in Keane’s squad.

Former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos won't be in the Tottenham side facing Town as he's with the senior squad in Portugal..

jas0999 added 17:04 - Aug 2 I think this will be a case of two reserve sides. I really can't see Roy risking too many of his starting 11 in this one. As for Spurs, well they may even bring their third string - as they will have a strong team in Benfica.

Well since this seems to be a bash at me I'll defend meself - I'm not half as pessimistic as some people on this board. I was happy with Keane, well behind him, until Plymouth at home, it was just awful. If he stays on and does well, brilliant, but for me we've gone backwards under him. Who'd have thought some people would hark after the "good ol days" where we managed to finish 8th under Magilton? I didn't at the time.

My comment was merely an aside that Colin Healy has not played for us competitively (as far as I'm aware) therefore him being reavailable for selection is hardly cause for joyous celebration.

Only posting here because it's nice to know I'm not along! Nothing wrong with pro or anti Keane, etc, etc, but every news item?!

blrmy: A couple of points... Firstly, keep posting, it's nice to read posts that are not full of negativity! Secondly, if you do, you will be accused of being pro Keane, as I constantly am... which is strange as I'm not particularly pro or anti Keane really, I'm still to make judgement. What I am is pro Ipswich, which means whilst I have opinions on many aspects of the Club/Management/Players, generally I support all 3. Although I do often find myself posting what could be considered pro Keane posts, simply because some of the frankly madness written by some of the anti-mob would look more at home in those conspiracy magazines they have in the USA. RK gets blamed for everything and given little room to breath, work, do his job without someone blaming him for the ills of ITFC, the country, possibly even the world! And me being me, I sit here in my little tower and exclaim “They can't blame RK for that… that's crazy!” so find myself defending his position far more often than I would like…
So the point is, if you contribute balanced views, keep posting!

I still think if we get 5 wins out of the first 15 we are in a good chance of a play off place. the second half of our season was not too bad (not the best but not bad)
I feel that Peters is as Good as D Wright. we are about to purchase a better keeper than Murphy, Left back is now sorted with Kennedy and Dalaney and McAuley at the back. Midfield we will have Cilielli on the left, with possible leadbetter, Norris and Walters on the right, Up front we have Wickham and with some luck possible Chopra.
On the bench Murphy O'connor Smith Priskin Edwards Hyam Clarke.
I think we will be there abouts, Few purchaces in the Jan transfer window home and dry. Heres to a good season

I have said this about three times during the transfer window these players were or are still available and we have not got any! Need big commanding centre back shittu from bolton, demerrit released another right back bradley orr from bristol city midfielders townsend from spurs Butt released from newcastle gio back on loan could of got ambrose before burley arrived and up front jason roberts from blackburn or lambert from southampton what signings these would be we need pace and creativity in our side width and flair and we have nothing why cant we ever sign manutd kids or loan like cleverley, welbeck, or from arsenal eg simpson, randall, these teams have loads of tallented yougsters who would be available on season long loans what about danny rose, or bostock from spurs we play these teams in friendlys go on keane have a word with harry

I have a horrible feeling that a lot of the start of the season will be a few pond life trying to get rid of Keane and this will turn the atmosphere sour and help the team lose confidence. I personally feel Keane hasn't yet proven himself but needs to be given a little bit more time but at the same time I'm sure ME has a point in his mind when to cut and run if things aren't improving - from how he dealt with it before it would be when he's already found a replacement. I'm not pro or anti Keane. I'm pro-Ipswich - I hate the feel of negativity for the sake of it but appreciate constructive comments for or against rather than just for the sake of it.

And I'm thinking Pablo and Stead particularly! We need another striker with Connor out for another month and one of those 2, if not both, can and need to come up trumps!
