Bristol City Make McAuley Enquiry?
Bristol City Make McAuley Enquiry?
Monday, 2nd Aug 2010 17:25

Bristol City are reported to have made an enquiry regarding Town central defender Gareth McAuley. The Robins were first linked with a move for the Northern Irishman last week.

McAuley was previously said to be an alternative signing if Steve Coppell failed to land QPR’s Damion Stewart, however, the Jamaican international has completed a move to Ashton Gate and McAuley is still claimed to be a target of the club who recruited England keeper David James last week.

Town would almost certainly resist offers for McAuley, a key man in their defence, particularly with Damien Delaney out of action for three months having suffered a serious thigh injury and with Alex Bruce having moved to Leeds last week.

McAuley was linked with a move away from Portman Road last summer, having lost the captaincy, but subsequently committed himself to the club.

The former Leicester and Lincoln man is contracted to Town until June 2011.

Need to keep him. But wait this is Keane fault

I can't see RK letting him go unless the offer is a ridiculously high one... which from Bristol City is unlikely! They probably have made an enquiry and been met with the same answer we have been giving out for Wickham… not for sale unless you pay us silly money.

You bagged James from Pompey, but unless you are offering 5 million just go away and bother someone else Coppell.

Bristol City are going to be a suprise team this year.
Could they be the Man City of our league.

But they can shove their money where the sun don't shine. And like Redmond said "F off Bristol"

Hopefully we told them where to go! We are light of experienced defenders - so he can't go!

We shouldn't even think about this. GM is pivotal to our defence and selling him could prove terminal.

Unfortunately, due to the highly publicised fall out with RK last year and the fact he only has a year left on his contract, I wouldn't put it past RK to cash in on him for a pittance...

Player of the year and hugely improved under Keane, together with fantastic understanding with Delaney at back make a sound rock to build on and any sale would be madness.

First time poster, well for some seasons. Season ticket holder 15 seasons etc.....just in case I get a good slating for saying something someone doesn't like, but here goes...........with four days left till KO I am seriously peed off with the lack of inward movement to PR, I renewed thinking, surely this summer there would be a striker, surely Keane would sort it?, alas, is it ever gonna happen. all the rumours about outward bound players gone or not, the facts are gone are the days of your Matt Holland's/Johnny Wark's, players who actually wanted to play for Ipswich, we now know what most think, Stead please jog on as you couldn't hit a barn door all of last season or at Newmarket Town, Walters, for me, never the club captain, too quiet and had a season at it without helping to motivate the team, part of our problem possibly, off form, doesn't want to be here, get rid. My captain, Leadbitter.........has at least some desire to win the ball and I feel a captain shoudl be middle of the park for communication purposes front and back.

And to comment on this story rumour, if GM goes it shows a complete lack of ambition a the club and will serve us right for peeing him off at the end of last season.

All a bit negative maybe but I have been pent up all summer, so there it all is for what it is worth.

Please, Please sign someone and quick, I do hope this no comment from the club means they are working hard to secure the right players, starting with that Chopra chap cause at present I can't see goals.............

I hope Fulop is worth the dosh, surely our N0.1, can't pay a million quid for a 2nd?.

I thank you.

Oh dear. Let's hope we don't part company with McAuley. At least it is not a Premier League club, as that would be more difficult to resist.

Anyone left ? Oh yes -Keane . I am worried that he may be the last one to leave !

SiBo added 19:36 - Aug 2
Umros; I understand your frustration, but I suspect we are close to a couple of signings in the next week or so... And I can't see us letting McAuly go unless it's a silly proce... which Coppel won't pay! Keep the faith!

McAuley has shown true grit, determination & confidence in own ability & proved a load of doubters (including me) wrong after an iffy less start at PR. He's been pivotal to the shoring up of our defence.

Coppell u can kiss my stump.

Nice to see lots of anti keane plums up to their usual moaning. Of course we don't want McAuley to go, he has been fantastic for us ever since Keano gave him the rocket he did need a year ago (please remember to note that Keane deserves an awful lot of credit for getting the best out of him last season, despite his difficult start to the season. It is great testament to not just McAuley but to Keane for being sensible, and leaving the door open for him to come back into the team and arguably play better than he ever has in a town shirt).

And besides, there is nothing in this story that should make people moan about Roy Keane. He can't exactly help other clubs being interested in our players can he?! In fact, it shows us that the 'poor' management at the club are in fact doing a good job when players are interesting other clubs.

He won't go, this story is nonsense. Coppell should do one if he thinks McAuley is going anywhere, though the contract situation is an interesting one

Macaulay is top drawer, frankly I'm surprised premiership clubs havn't come in for him. Has anyone considered Nicky Butt for the mystery midfielder? I don't think he's got a new club after leaving Newcastle.
