Bruce Wishes Fülöp All the Best
Bruce Wishes Fülöp All the Best
Tuesday, 3rd Aug 2010 11:36

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce says he wishes keeper Márton Fülöp all the best for the future with his £750,000 move to the Blues set to be confirmed today. The Black Cats boss says he admires the Hungarian international for choosing to move on in order to have a greater chance of playing first team football.

Bruce says the deal is all but done: "It appears to be pretty much past the post now and if and when it does happen we wish Márton all the best. To be fair, I admire him for the fact that he was so keen to be playing first team football."

The 27-year-old, whose Sunderland contract is up next June, is likely to have taken a pay-cut to join the Blues.

750k for a quality keeper is a good deal, and if he is taking a pay cut then it shows his desire to play for us, which is always a good sign.

yes people will say we should spend the money on another position, but this is a definite upgrade and one that will in turn help the back four! i like it1

Snedders - good post, and absolutely spot on.

I nearly fell off my chair that there was a bit of positivity on here!

I'm excited by his signing. A solid, experienced keeper dropping a division and taking a pay cut to join us is an excellent bit of business and a really good indicator that he wants to play for us.

Well done to Keane and everyone involved. I can't wait till he signs!

what can i say that hasnt been said already??? for me this is a superb signing, along with kennedy the back four will be well organised and importantly we now have asolid keeper with a defender that isn't afraid to boss his team mates about, nice one RK

Shame he can't play against Exeter, as this would have been a good opportunity for him to gel with the defence. Any chance of pulling him out of the Hungary squad, Roy?

I think that the goalkeeper is the most important position, with every one goal conceeded we then have to score two to win.

I agree with Bruce that sometimes money is less important than pride or loyalty.

My very best wishes Marton!

boooooooooooo, Keane out, he only signs Hungarians, boooooooooooo.

Seriously, though, I'm excited about this, he is a big, solid and very commanding keeper who is a big improvement on Murphy, who will provide good backup/competition. Now for a striker, a right back and possibly a central midfielder and we are sorted!

I have to say that I agree with a lot of the comments above! He is a "Big Unit" and although he's tall, he's also agile. His performances against us in the past have stuck in my mind as being dominating and assured so lets hope he brings those with him here.

At the beginning of last season we had real issues at the back (and in front of goal), but over the season we managed to iron out the problems and McAulay and Delaney ended up forging a pretty solid partnership and i feel that with the addition of a commanding and vocal 'keeper behind them this can surely only be a positive move for the Town.

I am an admirer of Murphy, but lets not forget he was originally bought here as a number 2 to Richard Wright. He has done well enough to oust Wrighty from the position but he lacks height and presence!

Thinking back to the goal WHU scored at the weekend, i wonder if Fulop had been between the sticks it may have been a different outcome? With his height he may have even come for the cross and nullified the situation but Murphy would've never got there with his height and he could only react by parrying the ball into the air as he was then on the back foot.

Keano deserves the credit he's getting for this signing, and if he can bring in Chopra as well then the so called "Sunderland Flops" that he's recruited won't look so bad after all.

Welcome aboard Marton Fulop.

This is the type of player/signing we want how about a top goal scorer to go with Fulop.

Well done Keane.

We have three (maybe four with Ian "Chat up your missus" McLoughlan) quality keepers, at the club. Peters, Delaney, G-Mac , Kennedy and Smithy all quality Defenders - I can't see us getting spanked by any team this season??

I agree with all the above really... a decent signing that improves on what we have... it will be interesting to see if he goes straight in on Saturday... now that would be a baptism of fire! First game for the new club at the Riverside...

Stats for last season are not too impressive 16 matches 2 clean sheets and 27 goals conceded !!! Nearly 2 goals a game conceded is not so clever !¬

Phil quick!!!! Call the police your site has been stolen by hackers!!!!

Too much positive feedback lol

Seriously thouogh looks to be a good solid signing although only time will tell. I am not a Keane hater or supporter I was dismayed when he was appointed and disappointed last season, BUT he is our manager and looks to be going in the right direction. The one good part of last season was he managed to sort out our leaky defense which has been a problem since out last season in the prem and now with a decent keeper and hopefully a new striker the season now looks good we have a squad which is good enough for playoff and with that bit of luck which we have been missing since 2000/2001 who knows.

Maths not your best subject then??

"Every one goal conceeded we need two to win!" Ok, what if we conceed two? surely we only need 3 not 4 to win? Or have FIFA fecked about with the rules again?

some one described him as being in the same vein as begovic which i think is great. remember how we started playing with him in goal? the difference was huge.pun intended.

Not felt so positive about our goalkeeping position since Kelvin Davis signed in 2003!

Good stuff!
