Keane: No More Exits
Keane: No More Exits

Boss Roy Keane says strikers Pablo Couñago and Jon Stead are likely to be the last players leaving the club this summer. Stead has been in talks with a number of clubs of late including Bristol City, Cardiff and Blackpool.

Keane, who again dismissed suggestions that defender Gareth McAuley could move on, says no one else is likely to be leaving in the short-term: “I think that that will be it in terms of players going out if Pablo and Steady were to go. And we’d hope to get three or four in, but we’ll see. Watch this space.”

I presume this excludes a few loans for the kids once the window is closed?

Perhaps he could tell us why the enthusiastic Jon Stead, who has played well in all three games so far and scored a goal, is leaving the club for around £225K? Stead clearly wants to play for Ipswich and is doing all he can as I see it. Why give him away to a rival for peanuts?!

Mark, it must be wages. For a back up he does appear to be on a lot, if you believe the rumours he's on 12-15k a week.

If Pablo were to go?

It is obvious then that you really don't know what your chief executive is doing!

i like Stead's work ethic and morals, it makes a refreshing change from the likes of Pablo.
However it is obvious he is not seen as a first choice by the manager and I would rather see some of the young blues give their chance from the bench.

Anyone know is the McCormack deal dead now?

We need players coming in...not out.

Means we're stuck with Quinn and Healy for a while still

Healy is the worst player at the club.

I can understand selling Stead if his wages are high, but I'm amazed we can't get more he's certainly worth closer to 1M.

Quinn will go if there's any kind of offer, but that's pretty unlikely, especially as he's injured. Of the Famous Eight, only Healy seems to have redeemed himself for now.

has healy really redeamed himself or is it that we have no one else left and no one wanted him

I know Stead's wages are high, but then so are the wages of everyone else we are looking to bring in (more so probably). Surely we cannot let a current first-11 team player go when he is playing well and no one else is certain to replace him? We should have the wages to bring in new strikers now that D.Healy, D.Murphy, Lisbie, Martin, Walters and Counago have gone, without letting Stead go too.

Stead is apparently in mega money. IF and it is a big IF we sign a striker or perhaps two - with Priskin and Wickham (when fit) we simply can't afford to keep a player on a wage of around £15-£20K PER WEEK!!! That's the reality of a Championship club I am afraid.

hammo56 this interview would have been from yesterday am BEFORE pablo went. The news is released in dribs and drabs so we have new things to read each day rather than bombarding in single hit.

Can't we just keep John Stead ? A good player who often has to operate by himself and with poor service.

if stead is on big money then i fully understand why keane wants him off the books!
however at least stead is a whole hearted player, those sort of players whichever position they play ,must be the sort of players we need to keep at the club.imo stead is a better player than daryl murphy and david healy put together ..
lets hope we keep him

Lets do, what Wigian are doing. Only get rid of Stead when we get a replacement.
We are short on players as it is without Stead gong.

The Stead issue does seem to be down to this bad side of Keanes management - ie there are certain players that he doesnt like, irrespective of what they do on the pitch. Basically, Keane doesnt like Stead, despite talking him up - its as simple as that. Shame. Surely it would be better to let Priskin go and keep Stead.

Just heard the Palace post match interview and Keane says "We'll miss him (Stead)!". Then why let him go for fecks sake, it makes no sense! If Stead wants' to stay, and God knows we need him he was brilliant today, why can't we sort something out? I'm getting really frustrated with the whole thing now.

Keane is a joke ! ( No he isn't- jokes make u laugh !) As above ,I've just heard Keane interviewed .Stead should stay but obviously Keane wants rid / Stead wants to get away from Keane like so many other players . Counago, Walters, Bruce,Wright,Garvan,Stead, who next ? Keane ? I wish !!!

if we went up to top division we would have more money and be able to afford good players so why are sitting around in the 2nd so long ?

meekreech added 13:55 - Aug 22
Surely that can not mean Healey and Quinn are being retained in preference to Stead ?
