Saturday is Non-League Day
Saturday is Non-League Day
Friday, 3rd Sep 2010 09:49

This coming Saturday has been declared the first ever Non-League Day. With no Premier League or Championship fixtures this weekend, supporters of clubs in the top two tiers are being encouraged to take in some semi-professional football instead.

Non-League Day is the brainchild of James Doe, a lifelong football fan and supporter of Harrow Borough. Its aim is to promote the semi-professional game in this country during the international break.

James explained the idea: "With England playing the night before and the Premier League and Championship taking a week off, I urge all fans of the big clubs to get out and watch their local non-league team instead on Saturday 4th September.

“Given the current financial climate, clubs outside the Football League need all the support they can get, so your presence at a game will be genuinely appreciated. With tickets and refreshments at a fraction of the cost, what’s stopping you?”

More details on Non-League Day can be found here. As part of the promotion, Cambridge City are offering free entry to their game against Stourbridge to anyone with a Championship of Premier League season ticket.

Needham Market haven’t got a game on Saturday but have declared some of their games Blue Days with season ticket holders at Football League and Premier League clubs allowed entry to their fixtures against Heybridge and AFC Sudbury for £5.

Needham face Heybridge on Tuesday 28th September (KO 7.45pm) and AFC Sudbury on Monday 27th December (KO 3pm). More details on their website.

If you're a fan of a non-league side and want to suggest their weekend fixture, feel free to post below.

Got an Ipswich Town season ticket but go and see NMFC when Ipswich are away. The standard of football at NMFC is very good. I would certainly recommend it and for £5 you can't go wrong.

For those of us in the West of the county

There's Newmarket Town at home to Royston

or Soham Town Rangers at home to Bedworth Utd

am tempted with the Soham Rangers match - they play some good football

actually, Newmarket Town website is incorrect, the Jockeys are at home to Diss Town in the FA Vase, so that should be a good one too

You ought to change your name to Simonknowsnowt, fella.

Blues on the far side of the country are welcome to visit the New Bucks Head, Telford for AFC Telford Utd v Blyth Spartans in the Conference North. A supporter owned club, currently second in the league having scored 18 and conceded only 2. Should be an entertaining game!

AFC Sudbury at home to Romford.
Under 10's free, cracking new clubhouse, some great football being played and the wind might blow AWAY from the sewage works over the road.

I will be taking in my local adopted non-league side Glossop North End (smallest town to have provided a top-flight league club, fact fans!) against Squires Gate in the North West Counties Premier League.

Up the Hillmen!
