O'Dea Fit Enough to Make Armenia Trip
O'Dea Fit Enough to Make Armenia Trip
Wednesday, 1st Sep 2010 15:39

Town loanee Darren O’Dea flew to Armenia with the rest of the Republic of Ireland squad this afternoon ahead of Friday’s Euro 2012 qualifier despite picking up a knee injury in training yesterday. Coach Giovanni Trapattoni says the on-loan Celtic man is in with a chance of being on the bench on Friday.

Trapattoni says he is hopeful on O’Dea, who suffered a knee sprain, and Aston Villa’s Richard Dunne: “I am optimistic. As a precaution, we left Richard and also Darren out of training, but I am optimistic because we have 48 hours. Richard, I am sure about, and also it possible Darren could be on the bench.”

In addition to Friday’s game in Yerevan, Ireland face Andorra at home next Tuesday. O’Dea, who has previously won two Irish caps, is one of six Town players away on international duty at present.

Hopefully that useless manager of theirs won't pick him so he comes back safe and sound !!!!

Been better for us if he had stayed at home - whats the point of a not fully fit player on the bench. Just being selfish but we need him fit to cope with Lawrence at Pompey.

The Irish lads are made of tough stuff. He will be grand. For heaven sake can anyone over there get Mr Keane to get Brian Murphy back in goal. Fulop looked a bit dodgy at times againt Palace and Bristol City. ``Murph'' for Pompey I say !

If this makes his injury worse, I'm sure Keano won't be a happy chappy

I am sure someone else can deputise for him at int level for a game against armenia... i mean come on its not the eurovision song contest! They should be able to handle them without the need to take him...

So long as he has light training and he's ok it has to be a good thing that he's good enough to be in the squad despite picking up an injury?? every cloud at that!

Shows good spirit to me!

I Know this guy's looked good since he came in, but I can't help thinking this loanee is just stunting O'Connor's developement. Each time I've seen O'Connor I've been really impressed at his maturity, and ability. He's a good tackler, got pace, can time a challenge, and seems old past his days.... Not to mention Kennerdy when he's fit to challenge for the position.. I'm not complaining, but I think the wage would have been better spent on a striker... Honestly - no complaints to him being here, but what happens when we have Kennerdy O Connor and O Dea all fit..?!

Radiohead; are you on something? Marton Fulop looks the real deal in between the sticks and has looked calm and unfazed by anything since he has been here and long may that continue.

Sorry radiohead but I agree also - Fulop has settled in really quickly and looks fine to me - feel a bit sorry for Murphy cos he didnt do much wrong, but he is good cover for Fulop.
Also Priskin is much better with his mate in the team - maybe just coincedence but any small reason for his change in form/confidence we should cling on to !

O Dea should not play , we should get him back if he is not 100% - I am sure his injury is just as bad as Lampard/Terry and we are bigger than Chelsea aren't we???

I'm with you on fullop, on Saturday I thought looked the real deal. Like they said on talksport. All the best teams have a keeper who is a bit special, at our level I think we now have him. At least if he breaks a toenail or something we have a good back up!
