Keane: Nothing But Positives
Keane: Nothing But Positives
Tuesday, 21st Sep 2010 22:36

Boss Roy Keane said there were nothing but positives to be taken from the 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Millwall. The Blues manager, who is expecting news on his targeted loan signing in the next couple of days, says a number of the fringe players involved against the Lions have pressed their claim for inclusion at Scunthorpe on Saturday.

Keane said: “There were nothing but pluses for us. Another good finish from Tamás. I thought Reggie did well, Luke did well, Tom Eastman did well, Jaime in the middle of the park. A good game from Andros as well tonight.

“Damien Delaney got 90 minutes under his belt, Mark Kennedy did as well. Murphy did well in goal and I don’t think anyone’s really picked up any injuries tonight.

“Some players have held their hand up and said ‘I want to get involved on Saturday’, which is a good situation for me.”

Keane felt the Lions gave his team a tough evening: “The third goal was always going to dictate how the game was going to finish in the last 20 minutes. Credit to Millwall, they made it hard for us but we’re glad to be through.”

The Blues boss, who unsurprisingly would like a home draw in the next round, says there could be news on his targeted loanee in the next couple of days: “Judging by the results of other clubs tonight, I’d hope to have news on the player we’re interested in because of their result. I’d hope we’ll have positive news on that tomorrow or Thursday.”

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett thought his side were a touch unfortunate to be defeated: “We showed some spirit tonight and I think on the overall balance of the game we were unlucky to lose.

“We started the game very well and created several chances. Ipswich scored the first goal against the run of play and we lost our way after that for the rest of the half.

“It was a very poor and sloppy second goal straight from a freekick and that doubled the task. We needed to get in at 1-0 down. On the balance of play and the chances we would have been unlucky to go in 1-0 down at half-time.

“We showed some spirit in the second half,” Jackett continued, “but we perhaps made the wrong decisions. However, we showed some spirit and we put some pressure on Ipswich and if you’re going to lose, that’s the way to go down — playing with some spirit and competing.”

You get the feeling that Keano is enjoying his success far more with a bunch of lads rather than buying a team.

“Judging by the results of other clubs tonight, I'd hope to have news on the player we're interested in because of their result."

Assume he's referring to a Prem club that's been KO'd then? If so, that narrows it down to Bolton, Everton, Fulham, Sunderland and Spurs! A few decent fringe players across those clubs if true.

Looks like Tonge from Stoke City???

Kyle Naughton or Sam Ricketts could be right-back options Keano is looking at perhaps?

Naughton had a stinker tonight though.

Could be right lunatic38, I was just speculating it could be an eliminated club. Would love to see Tonge at PR, good quality player who has done well at this level and, at 27, should be in his prime.

Yeah didn't sound like he played well blaggers, though facing Arsenal, even when they're not at full-strength, is still a lot harder than facing the likes of Millwall and Bristol City!

Another great away result and despite Millwall's defeat to Watford at the weekend prior to that they'd been unbeaten at the New Den for 22 games which shows that it was not an easy place to go and get a result.

Taking into account the fact that we made 8 changes to the team who won at the weekend it's great to see that the players who came in from the squad were able to keep our good start to the season going. Seeing players like Delaney & Kennedy get 90 mins under their belt is great news! The fact that the young players who game into the team did well is fantastic and long may that continue. Townsend continues to impress and he does have the ability to carve out chances for us and change a game.

Seeing Priskin get a goal tonight after playing very well when he came on against Cardiff is good news for the team as having three strikers who can put the ball in the net competing for a place can only be a good thing.

This was another great result in the story of our season so far and it would be nice if we could finally get a home draw in the cup. Well done to Keane and the team who have put us into the last 16 for the first time since 2002/03!

very good result, and like you said Hermann, the den isnt the easiest place to go, especially for a team that haven't played together for long. With the likes of reggie lamb, priskin, and luke hyam doing well in these games, it provides great back-up to the first team, and keeps the first team players on their toes because they know they have to fight for a place. This year the team seems to have much more of a team spirit, the amount of fans we have travelling to away games is something to be proud of, and at tricky away games, the fans help the team to grind out good results. I cant decide if i want an easy game in the next round, or a top team away so i can visit their ground! either way, at this rate, its going to be an exciting season. Only several games in, but i'm just enjoying it whilst it lasts:) well done tonight boys!

OK, there's no chance of Gio, i think we know that but if Harry wants Gio to have a future at Tottenham than what better manager to sort him out than Keane. From what i hear Gio's a bit rogue, late for training, out late on the sauce more often than not.

Tonge's a good shout but i'd rather Colback or Andy Reid

Colbeck was on the bench again for Sunderland but was never brought on but then Keane said it's not him
just seems starange that Bruce said he is part of his plans yet is not using him!!!!

If someone is on your bench, then he's very much part of your plans.

Well done town! Great result tbh. I wouldn't rule out gio, yes we have been chasing him for ages, but isn't it the same with chopra?... Wouldn't be suprised if it was that coleman kid from everton tonight who scored the goal?

keane has stated that the player in question is an attacking player, but i think after the qpr game he has thought about the right back position as reported yesterday we were after a second loanee.

Great game, last night and the fans were brilliant, i wonder how the millwall fan with the pink shirt is feeling this morning!!!!

I'd like to see ipswich go for jonjo shelvey on loan done well when he was playing at charlton!!

As for coleman from everton i dont think there is much chance of that as he seems to be involved in the first team alot more.

But overall good result, lets hope for a home tie next round.

How refreshing not to read a load of rubbish on here trying to put our Manager down, the truth is that Roy Keane is fully justifying his appointment, as I always believed he would and even the most anti Keane posters must surely see by now that he deserves recognition and praise for what he is achieving, I wonder however how many of them are big enough to admit it on this site, my philosophy is this " if you cannot give praise when it is due why critiscise, especially when it is cruel and unjustified " remember !!

Chris Baird from Fulham (who got knocked out last night) could fill at right back?.....

Roytheboy, you really are a plonker. The low attendence this season is due to Keane's dire management last year. Criticism has been more than justified.

He had a 2 year contract and this is Ipswich so it is right he was given 2 years.

This season - fantastic. All credit to him. But stop worrying about his critics and lap it up - it may not last.

And who are you anyway Confuscus?

I went to the game last night and all those who think we don't have strength in depth then i think they seriously need to look at our kids coming through. ok there a little green around the edges but as for confidence there is no fears there.
To be able to change 8 players from the weekend is a grate acheivement but to actually play the way we did, you would have thought they had been playing in the first team all season and i for one couldn't actually fault any of them.....
All the articals last year about Kean not knowing what he was doing and driving our beloved club into the ground just shows that there are alot of people now eating humble pie as he obviously was looking at the bigger picture and i think he has got a squad of players here now that for one want to play for the Manager but most of all want to be part of the ITFC revolution and get us playing back in the promised land that is the premiership.
I know alot of people say it year in year out that this year is going to be our year to get back up. But there is just something in the air at the club at the minute and any other season ticket holder or person at the ground on Saturday must have felt it around the stadium.
Instead of going into the game looking for a point we were actually looking to win it and thats whats happened in all the games so far.......i think it's called Confidence.
As for Lonees coming into the club, I don't care how long it takes Keano to get them as he is clearly looking for the rite person rather that a big name who will probably disrupt the team, In Kean we trust and if i could pick a player to come in it would defo be O'Hara and Possibly Machada From Man Utd

Sorry for long artical.....got carried away, But your thoughts would be interesting..COYB
