Livermore Joins On Loan
Livermore Joins On Loan
Thursday, 23rd Sep 2010 09:05

Town boss Roy Keane has confirmed that Tottenham midfielder Jake Livermore is joining the Blues on loan, as predicted on last night’s The Naked Football Show. The 20-year-old will provide competition for the likes of Luke Hyam, Grant Leadbitter, David Norris and Colin Healy.

Keane says Livermore, who is expected to be at Portman Road until January having initially signed until November 13th, is someone he’s been targeting for several weeks: “He’s a player I’ve been interested in for a while and with Tottenham getting knocked out of the Carling Cup Harry’s given us permission to speak to the boy.

“He’s a very good player, he has massive potential like Andros and he’ll hopefully come in do well for us. I think we’re short in that area of the club in terms of competition and we’ve got a lot of games coming up. We’re looking forward to working with him."

Livermore, 5ft 11in tall, spent time on loan in the Championship with Derby and Peterborough last season, having previously been on a temporary spell at the MK Dons. The midfielder has made one start, Tuesday’s Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal, and one sub appearance for his parent club. He also played the first 74 minutes of the friendly at Portman Road in August.

Keane says he is continuing to look for further additions: “I’m still after two more players, there are two positions we still need cover but having said that the way the players are performing at the moment they are making it hard in terms of getting players who are better than we’ve already got.

“We’re nowhere near [making further signings]. I’ve had brief conversations with one or two other managers and it’s a case of wait and see.

“There are some good options out there, a lot will have been dictated by the results in the Carling Cup and we’ll see how that pans out over the next few days. I think Jake will be the only player signing today.”

Keane says there were no new injuries suffered during Tuesday’s Carling Cup win at Millwall with Shane O’Connor (hamstring) and Alan Quinn (groin) the only players currently sidelined.

Meanwhile, Town have been linked with Swansea striker Craig Beattie. The 26-year-old Scotland international, who was at Celtic at the same time as Keane, is currently out injured having picked up a thigh problem in training soon after recovering from a calf injury.

Beattie, 26, joined the Swans from West Brom in 2007 and has previously had loan spells with Preston, Crystal Palace and Sheffield United. The Glasgow-born frontman is yet to appear for Swansea this season.

Don't know anything about this player really but after a quick look on wikipedia - he scored his first spurs goal against Barcelona in the Wembley cup and has scored goals at this level on loan to Derby & P'boro, so can't be a bad signing!

Don't know the player but to get a youngster from Tottenham who has first team experience can't be bad. If he does as well as Gio and Colback then that will be a good result. I'm sure he will be keen to impress so look forward to seeing him play. Any idea where he normally plays?

A few weeks ago someone in the know on here tipped this guy to be the loan player. Spot on. Looks ideal cover for Norris or Leadbitter or even good enough to play regardless

Good news all round but I suspect that these loans have a link to Spurs interest in Conner. Letting us have two such talented players puts them in a strong position for his signature in the future.

"One for the future".. he's been around for a few years now and is 21 so if he was THAT good....

Don't know much about this player, but agree with the points above that he already has first team experience in the Prem, so will hopefully be a threat this season at this level!

So if he plays in CM, do you guys reckon he will complement Norris/Keadtbitter/Hyam, or be a backup? My guess is backup, with Hyam obviously very young and a bit inexperienced to play every game, and Chuck is very close to a suspension due to his yellow card fetish!

In any case, great to have quality depth to the squad, given that we may be on an extended cup run as well as mounting a promotion challenge ....!!

COYB!

Looks like a good-ish prospect but do we really need more midfielders ? I think we need LB/RB/Striker.

Credit to 'Arry and Spurs as they don't bother with a reserve team so send the fringe players out on loan, ideally we would have liked someone with experience but as Keane explained that is not easy - anyway we already have 3 or 4 staying at the Salthouse costing a fortune.

I have a lot of scummy Spurs supporters where I work and they have told me he is also very comfortable playing right midfield as well as central so would seem a good utility back up player

I can't see Harry letting him come on loan just to sit on the bench as a back up. Question is who will he replace?

My guess is that Hyam will make way. Whether Jake sits as the holding player or Norris or Leadbitter takes over the role remains to be seen. If, as it has been suggested he is comfortable at right midfiled Carlos' place may be at risk.

I watched the first half of Spurs vs Arsenal on Tuesday and he was the best player with a white shirt on - far far more impressive than Gio - always wanted the ball, always wanted to make a positive pass.

Another very positive sign that Keane wants to play on the deck (following departure of Walters and the arrivals of Scotland (the midget) and Townsend), but in a far more direct manner than Burley used to.

Hopefully it keeps Colin 'Imnotafootballer' Healy out of the squad =)

No to Craig Beattie, hav'nt ben impressed when seen him , misses lots of easy chances , hopefully being injured we will be looking elsewhere. Also agree we need some back up at right back. Good signing today, another young promising player will add another dimension to our midfield.

Ive read online that he is only on loan to us till the 13th November! which is the day before his 21st Birthday coincidently (or not) am I missing something?

O2BITFC added 10:19 - Sep 23
Doh! it said in the report, initially on loan till 13th Nov, I should read more thoroughly lol

O2BITFC added 10:31 - Sep 23
Ok now I understand why he'son loan til the 13th November, Harry is hedging his bets in case one of his home grown over 21 players gets injured, come the 14th November Livermore will be 21 and a home grown player so can be included in Harry's 25 man squad if needed.

Seamus Coleman and that should do us.
Norris should have got himself booked against cardiff after we went 2 up then cup game would have been his ban.

Keep it up keano and blue boys

I can't see Livermore proving tough opposition for Norris and Leadbitter.
