McAuley Yet to Hold Contract Talks
McAuley Yet to Hold Contract Talks
Thursday, 23rd Sep 2010 17:37

Linchpin defender Gareth McAuley says he is yet to begin talks regarding a new contract with the Blues. The Northern Irishman is one of 21 Town players whose current terms are up at the end of the season.

The 30-year-old says it’s not something he’s overly concerned about: "There's nothing at the minute, it's not a big issue or a big deal. It's not something that's at the forefront of my mind or anything. I'm not panicking or worrying about it, it's business as usual.”

Speaking in an interview with BBC Suffolk, the former Lincoln and Leicester man says he’s happy at the club and might well put pen to paper if a new deal were to be offered: “There's nothing happening so I can't really comment. But I do enjoy being at the club, playing here and things are good off the field as well. I've just got to keep playing and those things look after themselves."

I'm not overly worried since Town normally leave these things quite late and Roy said he had talked to ME and SC about the players who needed new contracts. However if we get to January and deals havnt been offered then I would start to get pretty worried.

he is needed but he needs to stop being a typical footballer chatting up the local girlies

we need to sign him up before the January window when other clubs will start sniffing around again. He is at an age now where he may well be happy to settle in a place long term and stlll has a good few years decent football in him..

McAuley & Norris are both key players - sign them up now or they will be off at the end of the year. You can't rip the spine out of a side and expect it to do well. The club needs to learn from past mistakes. Remember when Shefki and Tommy Miller left for free after scoring over 30 goals between them? It took a while to recover from that one...

It will also keep them settled and help them perform well on the pitch.

Listen to the interview on BBC Sports pages. Following the last bout of 'Gareth is looking for a new Team' he sacked his Agent! He likes Ipswich, he's enjoying his football and the support the fans are now giving him (some of the comments early last year when he was carrying a thing injury will not help though)

He's not fussed that talks are not taking place, he's said he'll worry next May!

Quality Player - I'd get him on at least 3 years and would be one of a few that may get an increase in his current deal (@10kpw I think) as I think a Prem team will take a gamble on the 30yo for sure if we dally around much longer.

He'll sign before the Jan window.

Bit of a no brainer really,

Although is the current form due to the fact he is currently still trying to prove himself?
Or
Put himself in the shop window for other clubs to come and have a look at him?
Not an entirely bad thing in not signing him or Norris yet as if they do get new 3/4 year contracts, Would they go back to the old routine and think " That's me Safe then" And then suddenly the dip in form comes........
That's not being negative it's just a thought thats all,
If indeed Keano is playing it like that then some would say it's a very risky buisness but then some would say a master stroke......
Look at the players doing well at the minute?

Macca - 11 months left
Chuck - 10 months left
Connor - 15 months left

and obviously the lonees want to impress the parent club with good showings....
