Rodgers Yet to Hear From Keane on Beattie
Rodgers Yet to Hear From Keane on Beattie

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers says he has heard nothing from Town regarding their reported interest in striker Craig Beattie. A report yesterday claimed the Blues were looking to take the former West Brom and Celtic frontman on loan.

Rodgers and Keane are close friends but the Swans boss says Beattie’s name hasn’t come up in conversation: “I haven’t heard anything and, to be fair to Roy, we speak reasonably regularly.

“We speak very openly on players, so unless there is a message on my phone I haven’t heard anything.”

Rodgers, who is understood to have been the man Keane wanted as his assistant in the summer, says he wouldn’t rule the move out if the Blues were interested: “It’s something I would speak to Craig about and see where we are at. At the moment he has got a slight injury, but should be coming back.

“He missed the end of last season, came back, worked very hard over the summer, came back into pre-season and broke down.

“Then, having had a number of weeks out, had just returned to training last week and picked up a little niggle.

“So at the moment he is not in contention for us. But it is something we would look at and take it from there. But, at the moment, it’s just speculation so I can’t really say to much on that.”

Keane has said he is looking to recruit two more loan players, having completed the signing of Jake Livermore yesterday, although a big striker in the Beattie mould wouldn’t appear to be the area of the squad most in need of cover.

The only thing I can't get my head round is that Swnasea are willing to let him go out on loan to get first team football?? Is this the club for that???
Not being funny but if he gets in infront of JS, CW and TP then surely he should be playing in the first team for the swans.......?
Not saying the guy's not good or anything coz i've not actually seen him play that much but i do feel that he has to be something pretty special to get infront of those three at the minute and i'm sure he wouldn't come here as a bit part player so i don't actually see the logic in this one.....Unless it's a loan deal that Kean has made it clear it could possibly turn into a perminant deal and he will just have to bite the bullet till January and be happy to sit on the bench for us more often than not, Just a thought though
However if it is true then it's another experienced player on the books that could do a job for us......

rodgers hasn't heard anything about the move because keane don't need a big strong striker as above we already have 2 in js and cw, unless reports are true about connor's move to spurs.

I hope this isn't true, young Murray is sound as the 4th striker considering we only play 1 striker for away games.

That, and Beattie is a bit crap and made of china.

oh god please not him... i've seen him play many times and he just needs a hundred chances to score a goal... would so much rather see young murray as a 4th striker... that kid looks sharp...

Craig Beattie does seem to make a tap-in look difficult at times...saying that he can score the odd goal from distance. Honestly don't think he is good enough.....

NO no no...he's been pretty much crocked since he joined swansea...nowhere near good enough for a place in our team ahead of scotland, wickham or even priskin.

Not a terrible player, but not gonna pull trees either. He could warm the bench, but where would the other subs sit? What we really need is a winger/creative midfielder to come on to change a game. But ill be happy even if we make no more signings, as this team should be in a decent position come january.

Getting Scotland was a big boost. We don't need a striker at the moment.

It depends what system Keane is going to mainly operate with. If he is thinking of the 4-5-1 which he has played most games with 3 Strikers should be enough. If he is going to play with 2 strikers as he has started the last 2 league games then you would think a 4th would be required. Personally im a fan of the 4-5-1, But the pasting we got against QPR seemed to give Keane doubts. I think we will see us start with a 4-5-1 against Reading on tuesday after the poor first half display at Scunthorpe.

If Keano is interested in Beattie which it seems he has been chasing a big target man for a while Hulse ,Adebola it would be for away games when we are under the cosh a little and start hoofing the ball long as Scotland ,Priskin and Wickham are all struggling with high balls .To me it seems another option which is always a good thing surely ?
