Moore Joins Derby
Moore Joins Derby
Sunday, 26th Sep 2010 10:03

Reported Town target Luke Moore has joined Derby on a 29-day emergency loan. The West Brom man has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions in recent weeks having been left out of the Baggies’ 25-man Premier League squad.

Moore came on as a late sub for the Rams in Saturday's 5-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace. The striker’s team-mate Joe Mattock was also claimed to be on his way to Portman Road, however, a left-back is one of the areas of the squad where Town are well covered, with Darren O’Dea, Mark Kennedy and Damien Delaney over their injuries and Shane O’Connor also not far from a return to action.

Meanwhile, released keeper Richard Wright has confirmed that he spoke to Crystal Palace and Hull regarding potential moves in the summer before agreeing his four-month spell at Sheffield United.

Wright, 32, is pleased to have the chance to play games again: “All I want is to be with a club where I have the chance of first team involvement, and I know I shall be given that opportunity at Bramall Lane.

“It was disappointing not to get another opportunity at Ipswich, even though I understand how things work in football.

“But it was frustrating because, being a local lad, I was desperate to do well for Ipswich. Sadly, it wasn’t to be. All I want to do now is play as much as I can for Sheffield United.”

Good news as I didn't really want Moore on loan.

I would have thought a right-back has to be our priority. Credit to Eastman, but I'm not sure we should be playing an 18-year-old centre back at right back if we want to chase promotion. It's not as though we have any injuries in that position! I hoped that when we released David Wright that we had a replacement lined up.

As for Richard Wright, it must be pretty disappointing that a 4-month contract is the best he can do. He is 32, not 39!

He is no better than what we have already got. Good news really.

You would have thought so wouldn't you mark.....now we have to loan someone when we could have just kept wright permanently....what a joke.

Glad that Moore has gone elsewhere so that we don't keep getting linked with him. Just hope he doesn't score against us later in season

ChambersM - perhaps you didn't realise we are 4th in the league - unbeaten away from home and in teh last 16 of the cup. Do you really have to find something negative all of the time? Wright's gone and hasn't exactly excelled at Palace has he?

Mark added 17:18 - Sep 26
David Wright has only played one match for Palace so far due to a calf injury.

ChambersM - I really hope that was not directed at me? Point is you come on here - be 100% negative and then say we should have kept Wright - who as I say has not excelled this season (albeit due to injury). Therefore it is unfair to suggest we should have kept him as there is no evidence he would have been better than Eatman or indeed Peters.

Derby are obviously happy with their goal tally so far this season.

ChambersM added 20:14 - Sep 26
Peters is a winger and eastman is an 18 year old centre back?! Not to mention the goals wrighty always used to pop up with....definitely should have kept him.

Jas - Think before you type. How can you excel or otherwise if you dont play? The point being made is that David Wright should have been retained until we had a replacement right back. And no, Eastman ( C.B.) and Peters ( everywhere but R.B.) are not better than an established right back. Even to have someone like Steve Finnan to 'fill a gap' would be better. We have plenty of cover the other side so I'm not concerned about Moore not coming

Thanks for your advice ... but Wright has played for Palace and by all accounts has not excelled - and then in fairness he got injured. I accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, (and this is not directed at you), some people come on this board and post 100% negative comments all of the time - finding a reason to criticise Roy at every opportunity. Do any of us know what went on behind the scenes? Perhaps there was an issue with D. Wright? None of us know, yet some will find a reason to be negative.

I agree however that another right back should have been brought in, but it is impossible to say whether D. Wright would have been good or bad for us this season.

Bottom line is Wright has gone, so rather than some being totally against Roy - why don't they get behind the team?? We are 4th in the league!!! Doing better than when D. Wright was here. That's a fact - like it or not!!

Just to clarify our difference of opinion on this.

1. I have expressed no views on Roy at all.
2. You dont think much of Wright, I do.
3. I dont think we should have gotten rid of him before having a replacement.
4. Now that he is gone, we dont have a proper Right Back.
5. We dont seem to be looking for a replacement R.B. ( Even Finnan on a free)
6. I am delighted we are in 4th position but I believe this situation is an accident waiting to happen and when we are found out, our promotion chances will take a nose dive.

This is an expression of concern not a criticism.

Isn't Peters playing at full-back for Canada? Although i prefer him in midfield or on the wing i think his pace at the back is good cover if ever called upon.

As for David Wright, that's one of two small blots on Keane's copy book for me. Never really understood what he didn't like about him, i always thought he was fairly solid. The other blot being the sale of Rhodes although the cash was obviously a good bit of business. I think we all would like to have seen him develop at PR.

What happened to Richard Wright!? Should never have gone to Arsenal. Burley told you not to...

1. Agreed! In my post I said 'this is not directed to you'!

2. Actually I thought Wright was 'okay'. Just pointing out that we don't know what happened behind the scenes

3. Fair point - but contracts had to be agreed just after the end of the season - which didn't allow a lot of time to bring in a replacement first and David was able to talk to other sides.

4. Agreed. Although Peters/Eastman have played well in a team that are doing well - despite Wright departing

5. Again agree this is disappointing. Have comments on a number of occasions before that we need a right back.

6. Apologies if you think I am aiming my criticism comment to you. But it is frustrating that OTHERS come on here to find criticism at every opportunity (posting 0 positive comments) - hence the reasons for my original post - although accept the word 'excel' was questionable.

I think it would be hard for any fair minded person to have many issues with the management of the club this season. For all of the harping on about the Wrights, Garvan, Counago, Stead, etc I dont think any of them are missed. Add to them Shumulikoski, Haynes, Bruce, Balkestein, etc I dont think any have or will make much of an impression with their new clubs. RK admitted to some misgivings about Rhodes departing, but he was shown up as average in last seasons play offs, and he was never likely to have much loyalty to the club after his father left.

D. Wright's lack of pace was badly exposed v Newcastle last season, he was on good money, and at his age he wasnt going to become any quicker.

A right back though is definetely needed. Also, after an excellent start to the season in cup & league, there are some warning signs which must be heeded. That Fulop is consistently one of the best performers, tells you something. After showing signs of major progression after his world cup experience, Smith's performances have deteriorated, maybe through tiredness. He is making some serious errors and he now needs to step back from the first 11 for a spell. O'Dea is probably the best left sided defender at the club, but depending on the opposition may be needed at left back. Delaney hasnt looked sharp, but should possiby be given an opportunity v Reading. It should be back to 433 for that game. Livermore may be suited to the holding role, he seems to have the necessary qualities, and may be a little more constructive with his passing than the very promising Hyam. Priskin has done well when starting in the central position and deserves a run of games in that position, with Wickham to come in.

150k good business? Loaning stead out? Selling Bruce and stead and Garv for peanuts? 1.7m on priskin?..............

Keaneish added 22:00 - Sep 26
Yes Chambers, good business. It's believed to be in excess of 1 million with add-ons, not £150k. Bruce was rubbish, Garvan had his chances and never took them. I don't think either hold much value. Stead did well and could be worth a bit more. Priskin is a 23 year old international so yeah, i can understand 1.7 million although possibly a bit inflated seeing as all clubs knew we had cash to spend.

Also, Keane has recouped somewhere in the region of 5 or 5.5 million in transfers and spent about 8 or 9 so all in all, yeah, good bits of business all round really rebuilding our squad for that cost with the quality we now have in our team.

Have to agree with Jas0999, you do moan a lot simply because you don't like Roy Keane. Unfortunately now he's beginning to deliver the goods you may have to recede your disdain for the man somewhat because our club is looking in pretty good shape.

Sorry to have sparked such a debate by mentioning David Wright! :-) I think it is unfair to judge his Palace career so far based on one game, and I think if he were still here and fit he would be playing now (as he did ahead of Peters and Rosenior last season). I don't mind Wright leaving if a replacement comes in though, and I got the impression Keane was happy with Peters/Ainsley at RB. I think Peters has done well, although he is now being played further forward leaving a gap which young Eastman is doing his best to fill. I think we do need a better solution though.

In general about Keane, he was lucky to survive the sack last season based on results, but this season the results are coming and the side is looking much improved. I see no reason to think it will all collapse and I am confident we can make the play-offs this year and maybe go up. If we do that, considering the players sold and little money spent, then I will say a big well done to Roy Keane and the team.

Hope Wright makes a go of it at Sheff Utd (although not at our expense..).

Luke Moore - decent but now with someone else. Let's not go over the top.

The impression I get is that Wright was a trouble maker who brought everyone else down with his attitude. All the time he was here we struggled and now he, and a few others have gone we find ourselves in the top 4 so we don't miss him much do we? Also some of the people on here were saying the other week that Burley would have been better than Keane, well he's doing really well at Phallus with all our cast offs isn't he, 5-0 loss yesterday to another struggling side, yes they were down to 10 men but 5-0! come on. I for one hope they go down.

Zippy its a shame that you are so blinded by your hatred of Keane that you can't even see 1 positive in our fine start to the season. We don't need fans like you but of course you're not a fan are you, just a Budgie.
