Wickham Nets On England U19 Debut
Wickham Nets On England U19 Debut
Friday, 8th Oct 2010 15:21

Town striker Connor Wickham netted a debut goal for England’s U19s as they defeated Albania 6-1 in the opening game of their European Championships qualifying group in Belgium this afternoon.

Wickham added the third goal just before half-time, having come close on a number of earlier occasions.

The 17-year-old was replaced with 20 minutes remaining, presumably as a precaution with a match against Cyprus on Sunday and against the hosts on Wednesday.

Town could have three players involved in full internationals later this evening.

Strikers thrive on confidence, so it will have down him good to find the back of the net, as well as getting 70 minutes under his belt. Well done, Connor.

Not bad for a lad playing above his age group ! Different to playing in the leagues so good on him and lets hope his season starts now ! It will only do him good to get time on the pitch at a lower level of physical intimidation from defenders . At this age they do not yet know all the nasty ways of getting players riled so he will not react so readily to foul play against him as it will be more obvious and hopefully seen by refs and punished !

At 10 million per goal I fully expect the lad to score thrice between now and Wednesday! Yay Connor!!

Interesting point meekreech. As far as I can see, only Wickham, Bostock and Shelvey (at least until he joined Liverpool) are regular first-team players for their respective clubs. I reckon that should stand them in good stead, as they're used to playing League-level, adult football. May even develop his leadership skills, being more experienced than the average.
