Murphy Added to Irish Squad
Murphy Added to Irish Squad
Sunday, 10th Oct 2010 21:24

Town keeper Brian Murphy has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2012 qualifier with Slovakia in Zilina on Tuesday. The 27-year-old has been added to the travelling party as a replacement for Coventry’s Keiren Westwood, who picked up a facial injury in training.

Waterford-born Murphy is yet to win a full cap but has regularly been named in Giovanni Trapattoni's squads over the last year.

Despite Murphy’s lack of action for the Blues this season — he’s only played in Carling Cup matches — manager Roy Keane was surprised that the former Bohemians man hadn’t initially been named: “I can’t believe that Murph our goalkeeper isn’t in the Irish squad. Certain players seem to get picked all the time and others I’m left scratching my head about.”

Town loanee Darren O'Dea was originally included but was forced to withdraw due to his knee injury.

This is a fantastic goalkeeper who is good enough to be playing Championship football at the very least - good enough for some Prem teams.

He is just very unlucky that he is second in line to a Europa League standard keeper in Marton Fulop.

Just shows our strength in depth at the football club now,
Murphy on the bench for us as well as Priskin but still getting noticed at international level.

Shows the team is doing well also for these guys to get noticed.

Conner is showing his worth also and showing all his doubters that he can make the step up as he scored a good goal the other night and didn't look out of place what so ever.

Only a matter of time till Fabio comes knocking at the door.

Does this mean that thats another 2-3million added on to what is already a very talented player who seems to only be getting better and in my opinion isn't quite at full fitness yet in regards to his injury at the beginning of the season.

Good times ahead i feel,
So whats the next offer from Tottenham going to be???

Townsend, Livermore, Jenas, O'Hara + 3 million.........Snap there had off if this is the case

We can all dream can't we, whilst i'm still on that cloud you might as well chuck in Kean for an extra just to clinch the deal!!!! If you read this forum that is Mr Redknapp.....lol

comeonthegoodtimes, I love your optimism regarding that fantasy offer for Wickham from spurs. 4 players plus enough money to buy another great player just for our young, relatively experienced but of course, very good striker... we can only dream!

Having said that, I'd like for town to keep a young hot prospect for once, rather than sell like we did Bramble, Bent, Ambrose, etc.

Hopefully Westwood's facial injury will keep him out for Saturdays match too
