Wickham Wins Cap as England Lose

Striker Connor Wickham won his third England U19 cap but failed to add to his debut goal as his side lost their final European Championships qualifying group game 2-1 to hosts Belgium this afternoon.

The 17-year-old played the full 90 minutes and won an early penalty, which was missed by Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey, having been rested for all but the last 14 minutes of the second match, a 4-0 victory over Cyprus. The Blues striker had started and scored in the 6-1 opening game victory over Albania.

England had already secured their place in next spring’s elite phase of qualifying prior to today’s game.

Wickham is likely to be back at Town tomorrow ahead of Saturday's home game against Coventry City.

Little disappointed that he played the full 90. Can see Keane playing Scotland upfront on his own now. Don't get me wrong, we beat leeds and it worked well but still would quite like to play 4-4-2 with 2 strikers at home over 4-3-3 with 1 striker since if the opposition full backs attack like QPR did the Edwrads and Townsend can't support Scotland.

Come on, put him in the 1st team. Crouch is cr@p and the big lump from Bolton is a joke at international level.

Darren Bent deserves his International chance, he is a natural born goal scorer.

3 games in a week and a bit is a lot of football for anyone. Connor will be very tired but this is exactly what he needed, game time.
Priskin and Scotland to start next game against Coventry. Bring Wickham on with last 15-20 minutes to stretch his legs and he should be 100% fit for next week.

By all accounts he played well in the games, got a goal and won a peno. Well done Connor.

I agree Darren Bent should be given more of an England chance although he was injured for Montenegro so not much Capello could do.

Connor will be the first team soon, but its better he gets game time at under 19's first, better for us and his confidence.

Has anyone seen the story about Reid not being happy at Sunderland and is looking to go out on loan? Yes, please.
