Keane: Forest Defeat Much Like Watford
Keane: Forest Defeat Much Like Watford
Saturday, 23rd Oct 2010 18:10

Boss Roy Keane felt the Blues' third successive defeat at Nottingham Forest was similar in many ways to Tuesday’s loss at Watford. The Town manager was again disappointed to concede just before the break, even if Lewis McGugan’s freekick was a 35-yard thunderbolt.

Keane said: “It was similar to the Watford game and the match up here against Forest last year when it ended up 3-0.

“When it’s 2-0 you’re gambling. If we’d got back to 2-1 we’d have had a chance, but then again the way we were attacking at the end we could have lost by three or four because we were taking chances.”

Despite acknowledging that Lewis McGugan’s goal was a superb strike, Keane was disappointed to again concede on half-time: “People will look at it as a good goal from the boy and I wouldn’t begrudge him his bit of glory but we should have seen out the first half, the same as on Tuesday. Déjà vu.

“Forest you could say took their foot of the pedal a little bit after the break, but I’m OK with the players. Two bad goals, some generally good play from us, but you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net and we’ve not done that again.”

The Town boss says current results have been a bit harsh on his side: “It’s just not happening for us at the moment. I don’t think we’re getting what we deserve. That’s three defeats in a row. Against Coventry I think we could have got something, at Watford I think we could have got something and I think we could have got something today.

“We had one or two half-chances, the one that hit the bar and came out and the lad blocked it on the line. At the turning points in games we’re just not getting the breaks.

“We kept getting in there, but having said that I think their keeper’s made only one or two saves. It’s not as if we’re getting their keeper man of the match, the same the other night.

“I don’t remember the opposition keepers making too many saves. As much as we’re getting in good positions, it’s just the final ball or the final touch [which is letting us down]. He made a good save from Connor, but other than that he didn’t have much to do.”

Keane said that striker Jason Scotland was always expected to play only the first 45 minutes and that the Trinidadian wasn’t injured, despite being on the end of a heavy challenge.

Forest boss Billy Davies, who revealed that goalscorer McGugan had been laid low with illness earlier in the week, was delighted with the midfielder’s stunning freekick: “It was a great strike, fantastic. If it’s not the goal of the season, it’s one of them. It was a wonderful goal.

“A lot pleased me today. I thought the back five were excellent considering they played out of position and they had to shuffle it around.

“It was nice to see David McGoldrick coming into the side and getting his goal, that will do him a lot of good and give him a lot of confidence.

“I thought that throughout the side we worked very hard and showed good quality and good fitness and great determination. It’s a pleasing three points for us.”

Sean O'driscoll get him here! watching Doncaster match, they play football like we use to! and he seems buy decent players with not much money. Sorry but getting all this players on Loan from preimer doesn't work. There is no progression under Keane, he has wasted the money he has been given. Under Keane the style of football is negative.

It was similar to the Watford game in that we were not a difficult team to defend against. Forest's first goal was an example of how to attack dangerously with Cohen crossing low and hard from the wing and McGoldrich running on to it...tough to defend against. I think that Townsend and Edwards are underutilised...they have the speed snd skill to take on players to get the ball upfield and whip ovet a low hard cross but we rarely do that. Instead we try to work the ball up the middle or send in diagonal crosses from the wing which their goalie took easily in stride. The free kick by McGugan was a beauty. He struck it inside of the two man wall. Admittedly the ball bent wickedly, but I think that we gave him too much of the goal to shoot at. As against Watford, we played quite well in patches but lack the ability to control the game on a sustained basis.
Keano 'sort it out" please.

Bobby Petta why would Sean O'Driscoll want to come here, after a couple of bad results this site would be awash with idiots calling for him to be sacked and stating they never wanted him here in the first place

Keane has spent millions and we're a worse team than when he joined us and that wasn't a great team at that.

I have supported Keane and I hoped he'd do well. Sadly, his time is up. 13th after 13 games is simply not good enough.

Was glad when Marcus was appointed
Was glad when Keano was appointed
Not at all glad now.
Had a season ticket last year but not this. Endured 23 games of mainly boring football. Apart from the Pablo last minute goal I struggle to remember too many highs for my £369
Have only attended 2 home games this season and I sat there bored stiff to be honest. If i had a paper I think I would have read it.
I was a major major advocate of give Roy time and let him bring in his own players . Not any more.
To be fair , the goalposts have been moved for Roy. There was big money available when he first came, but not now. I am sure by some of his comments in the press he is unhappy at the lack of cash now.
All the same, even with cash, if the tactics arent right it doesnt matter who plays. I think the main reason Roy is getting stick now is the style of play, not necessarily the results. People in Suffolk can stomach a lack of success but cant stomach this style of football.
Now we are seeing the players Roy wants, the style he wants. Do we like it? No we dont.
Will it improve? I dont think so.

I am gutted! I hoped for and expected so much and not only am I not getting or seeing it but.... We do seem to be getting left behind now with the other teams further up the division! Our tactics seem poor and our goal scoring threat or ability seems non existent not to mention the crap from any set pieces, be it corners or freekicks! I'm sorry keano but to quote some of my old school reports... Very poor - must do better!!!

Poor game I do like keano but tactics were poor leadbitter and Norris both looked lost. I don't see what keano sees in Edwards he stayed out wide most of the game looked good for 10 mins but we play like England we have the talent and players but my goodness does our football suck sometimes. Wanted to enjoy the game but fed up of being told to sit down.

Roys the Boy, was Norris free, was Lisbie free, Stead free plus others.

Magilton was the first manager to have access to the Marcus millions and did sweet FA with it.

Please don't use selective memory to further your idea.

Dunno which game keane was watching, we deserved nothing today. We never looked like scoring, couldn't keep the ball, no fluidity in the attacks, shaky at the back, the players don't look like they have the desire to win, which is the least you would expect from a side managed by keane.

I will continue to support keane but I'm losing the belief that we can get promoted and I don't think keane is too concerned about promotion as ME gifted him the excuse he needs by not reeasing funds for derry.

Disgrace, yet again. I'm not even going to bother saying keane out.....oops.

Sadly tactically inept! Opposition managers must find it easy to beat us, so predictable and after a good start it is becoming increasingly worrying where we are heading in this league, i hate to say it but Norwich are looking far more of a play-off bet than us and the teams below us are picking up points. I hope it is not a reverse of last season otherwise we are in serious trouble! Us fans who have no idea what we are talking about seem to highlight the same old problems each week, but the professionals cannot or dont want to, do anything to change it. why does Leadbitter continue to take corners, why do too many players play out of position, why do we play 1 up front,we never look like scoring from corners/freekicks and so on......yawn yawn. I hate being negative and have supported RK but too be honest there is not much to cheer about at the moment.

i ve got a lot of time for keane - u cant not respect him in a football sense. Will he ever be a great manager? jurys clearly still out. I think he has the potential with all his experience but i m not sure we are the club where he will crack the managerial nut. I will always support whoever is in charge of our great club but part of me thinks that this time next month he wont be in charge.

Magilton? Are you sure? He was worse than John Duncan!

I'm a massive Keaneite but why play 1 up front? We've played it for the last three games and got 0 points from it. Must revert to the formation we started with when we were playing with confidence. Keane was bang out of order saying fans didn't know what they were talking about in questioning his 4-5-1 formation. Yes Roy, you know more about football than me, but I can tell you, you will have no success playing a lone striker, especially one who's 5'7.

Rever to 4-3-3, job done. We seriously need to get some form back before we play the scum at the dump!

We will never be more than a mid-table team (at best!) under this man. Get rid. Now.

At least Norris Stead & Lisbie were good buys. And didnt he buy Walters? What's this man bought? Sweet fanny adams worth anything.

Maybe Magilton could become assistant to Keane and help guide him along? Couldnt do any worse.

Please let's not debate Jim again! He's gone and after his 'antics' at QPR (many of their fans think he was the worst manager ever) he's unlikely to get another decent job in football.

We would like a mid-table side. Three defeats in a week is simply not good enough, but until we address the goal scoring we won't be going anywhere fast!

i just dont get, we are no better off than when keane came here, we seem to be going backwards even after the millions keane has spent, could it be that keane is not a good manager and the people at the club should stop being so blind at the situation with town,2nd to 13th is not progress.

i remeber reading somewhere that roy said he plays the one up front to make us hard to break down as we let in to many goals last year...

has it not clicked with him yet that its still not working. I would like to see us play 433 or 442 with a chance of us putting some in the back of the old onion bag, we cant be letting in any more than we are already playing one up.

Have to start with one positive.... Great away following today turning up in the numbers as usual away from home. Negatives... 4th defeat in 5 im starting to worry. The team we had seen in August was exciting to watch and it was a dream start 2nd in the table keano had seem to change the fortunes at portman road. And now we have dropped to 14th with doncaster winning earlier. Are we any better than last year? In my OP I don't think we have? Big 3 or 4 games coming up more defeats than Keane will surely be shown the door.

Lisbie a good buy, which world do you live in, how many goals did he score, what seemed to be the general consensus of opinion on this site about Lisbie.
Stead good in patches, not prolific enough.
Norris, what was the opinion of a lot on this site when he first played, quite a lot said what a waste of money.
Another great Magilton signing, Thatcher!
All managers make poor decisions in the transfer market, but plaeae don't make Magilton as a great wheeler and dealer as most of his signings were not that great
