Trotter's Progress No Surprise to Keane
Trotter's Progress No Surprise to Keane

Town manager Roy Keane says he’s not surprised that former Blues midfielder Liam Trotter is having a successful season with Millwall, who are at Portman Road this afternoon. The 22-year-old has been a regular for the Lions after joining them for an undisclosed fee in the summer and was recently linked with Premier League Sunderland.

Keane says that the Ipswich-born player’s success comes as no shock to him: “We knew that Trots is a good player and he’s having a very good season with Millwall.

“We offered him a contract in the summer, but having said that sometimes a player needs a change of scenery. Particularly when players come up through the ranks and they’ve been here a long time. Who’s to say if Trots had stayed here he might not have kicked on like he has?

“I always liked Trots, I thought Trots never let us down. He’s a young man learning his trade and he’s gone on to a new level with Millwall, which we knew he would.

“There’s no surprise that he’s doing well, he’s a good player and we’ll have to keep an eye on him.”

I'd always liked LT and it was a shame he left, but it was probably the best thing for his career. I suppose it highlights what RK was saying the other day about getting behind the younger players, as a section of the crowd had decided that Liam wasn't up to scratch and weren't going to give him the chance.

Hopefully LT will continue to do well and Sunderland will fork out some cash for him, some of which will come ITFC's way!

Funny that since Marcus Evans, the business high flier, has taken over the club has consistently done bad business in offloading good prospects on low wages before they've had a chance to prove themselves while over-paying for flops and journeymen on inflated wages.

sheepdags the players we buy and sell are Keane's decisions. If Trotter was playing every week he would have signed the new deal with us. It was right for all parties that he started over somewhere else.

Liam Trotter was loved by everybody at the club when he was on loan at Millwall, including the fans and was a first team regular. That is why he left to join them. FACT. Good luck to him. Personally, I don't really see how he would fit in with Norris, Leadbitter, Livermore, Hyam and Colback.

Had a decent chance to hit the target towards the end of the match. Didn't make solid contact, looks to have improved a lot.
