Keane-Wickham Row Claim
Keane-Wickham Row Claim
Sunday, 31st Oct 2010 09:30

Town boss Roy Keane is claimed to have had a row with star striker Connor Wickham in a report in one of this morning’s tabloids.

According to a wholly unconvincing piece in the Mail on Sunday, Keane’s position as manager is in doubt because of the alleged bust-up, with the club set to choose which of the pair remains at Portman Road in January.

The report claims the row stems from Wickham’s annoyance at being left out of the Town side at times this season, although his omission has largely been due to ankle injuries and a resultant lack of fitness.

Wickham, rated at £10 million and watched by most of the big Premier League names this season, came off the bench during the second half of Town's victory over Millwall on Saturday. Previously those whose relationships with Keane have been strained, such as Jon Walters and Ben Thatcher, have not been involved with the first team squad.

On Friday an upbeat Keane stated that the club had no intention of selling Wickham in January: “We’ve not thought about that. We don’t want to be selling any of our players."

Town don't comment on such speculative stories, but TWTD understands that there is no truth in the claims.

What a load of old Cr@p!

Anyway all players and managers fall no matter what league or status!

At the end of the day unless either Keane or wickham come out talk about this then it should be left!

Hope there is nothing in this. Could undermine the season if true. Would be a very difficult situation...

Unlike the likes of Thatcher and Lisbie, RK would find it very difficult to alienate CW given the hype

'star striker' ?? Sorry, this story aside; that is simply not true. ATM Scotland is our star striker.

I don't believe there is *anything* in this story. Unless Wickham is literally the next Wayne Rooney, with comments like 'i'll keep my feet on the ground'.. and then throwing toys out of prams when he plays poorly and doesnt live up to others' expectations.

ITFC 1981, bet your one of the morons who believe's Dwight Yorke still has the 'F""K OFF' text from Keano on his mobile. Sunday sensationalism at its finest.

Trying to make a story out of nothing. Typical rubbish coming papers like the Mail, Guardian, Independant, written by idiots.
Phil, can we just have articles from the Telegraph and Times please?!

Why report this after a positive result yesterday? I know this is probably not the case but i sometimes get the impression that even our local media want us to fail and just stir it up, I think this site has a duty to report matter of fact not this kind of unfounded rumor! This is of course just my opinion.

Give us 10 million now and I would definitely take it - didn't think his body language was great yesterday and fouls far too much for me. He will go eventually so cash in now while he holds the value.

Love the way none of these journalists ever have the balls to put there names to fiction like this. I wish they did so they could be held accountable...especially in a press conference under the steely stare of Keane. If i made up stuff in my job i'd get sacked!

Fairly sure everyone in Ipswich knows this story is utter litter.

Well ME being the money grabber he is would probably just sell wickham and keep keane, shame.

The guy that wrote it claimed in a previous article that Connor Wickham was born in Colchester. That gives a fair indication of how seriously you should be expected to take him.

Must be true because the newspaper said so. Fascist rag.
