Keane: Relax and Chill Out
Keane: Relax and Chill Out
Monday, 1st Nov 2010 10:29

Roy Keane says he was telling people to “relax and chill out” and was by no means panicking after the Blues’ three successive league defeats. Town got back to winning ways with the 3-1 victory over Northampton in the Carling Cup and Saturday’s 2-0 league win against Millwall.

Keane says he wasn’t getting overly concerned during the poor run: “It’s been a better week than last week but even when we had three defeats I certainly wasn’t panicking. I thought our performances weren’t that bad, we gave some daft goals away.

“Two victories this week and the players have done well, but we’ve got a good bunch. Going to Forest was always going to be a hard game. Watford and Coventry were a couple of games from which we should have got something, two draws maybe.

“But as usual everyone was panicking and getting worried. I keep telling people to relax and chill out.”

The Blues boss was pleased with his defence during the Millwall game: “I thought the back four were outstanding, young Tom, Tommy Smith at left-back. We’ve got four centre-halves in our back four and they’re all doing well.

“We’d always like a bit more going forward but they’re getting stuck in for us and we’re missing other players with injuries. We’re pleased with the clean sheet, we’ve not had a clean sheet for a while.”

Keane also had praise for his strikers, including sub Connor Wickham, the subject of unfounded newspaper claims on Sunday: “I thought Tamás did well. I thought young Connor and Ronan did well when they came on as well.

“Jason’s now scored five goals for us, poacher’s goals, shall we say. He probably should have scored in the second half, but credit to their keeper, it was a good save.

“Jack had a great chance, Jake had a good chance. We could have scored four or five but, having said that, Millwall had some good chances as well. Let’s not think it was all one-way traffic.”

Two wins, confidence back in the team, Home v Baggies in Cup, 1 pt off playoffs, Priskin and Scotland gelling up front and scoring goals.
Its amazing the difference a week can make!

A few days off to rest with Sheff Utd (A) on Saturday.
Derby and Barnsley form consecutive home games to come.
We have many reasons to be optimistic.

I would like to know what is the thinking behind us winning the toss and changing ends, as we have done for the last 3 home league games. I suppose its no big deal as long as we win but it does seem strange!!!

see Keane i'm not against you, think your tactics saturday were spot on and that things are looking up.... BUT it was very hard chilling out when returning from matches were tactics were poor, players did not look up for it and really not a good value for money peformance, i was rather stressed at the thought of another season of less than average football. Tuesday and saturday have helped restore the faith somewhat, but three more poor loses on the trot and the stress levels will start to rise again!!!!!

Is this the same keane that thinks we are long way short in quality from the top 2, and will struggle to score more than one goal in games. Now 2 home wins over some low quality opposition and it's all hunky-dory.
Having said that, wins are wins I suppose. Let's hope it continues.

Some of you seem to have got off on the wrong foot with me. You didn't like some of the jokes I told earlier. You've got to chill out, yeah? Trust me, this is what I do, alright? You will never work in a place like this again. This is brilliant. Fact. And you will never have another boss like me. Someone who's basically a chilled out entertainer.

Good on you Roy. I am no RK lover, but I can see where he's coming from. Credit where credit is due.

Wickets,
I was wondering the same..... all i can think is the sun appears to come in between the Pioneer (Britannia) stand and the Greenking and has gone before the second half so maybe just to avoid causing ourselves problem or use to our advantage

Think that the wins against the mighty? Northampton and the mighty? Millwall have papered over some cracks here. Unfortunately, Sheff Utd are way too strong for us. But we may have a chance if our tactical mastermind plays 4-4-2.

I'm not anti-Keano, but reading about Keane telling people to relax and chill-out is about as amusing as it'd be to read about Heskey offering Cristiano Ronaldo shooting tips

"We've got four centre-halves in our back four " - And how did that situation come to pass Roy?

Even if we had no injuries right now we still wouldn't have a right back, while Mark Kennedy has been a midfielder/winger for most of his career (despite doing well for us when available) and Shane O'Connor still has a lot to prove defensively.

It's not fair on Jaime Peters, who has been slotted in all over the place this season, or Tom Eastman, Tommy Smith, Darren O'Dea or anyone else to be judged when constantly played out of position. The options on the left side are certainly better, but O'Dea is still injured & will be gone in January leaving us short again. Two decent fullbacks was a priority during the summer, especially when we were releasing people who were naturals there & could have done a job, certainly until replacements were ready to come in.

Even a struggling Leicester managed to pick up a pair of decent fullbacks in the last week or two, so it's not like they haven't been available.

Much easier for a millionaire to chill out - than someone who finds it ever more difficult to find their season ticket money every year - no comparison, and all too easy for some to not care in this game.

haha, dude. 'let's not laugh at women, let's laugh with them, if anything.'

ps I can't imagine our club without keano nowadays. He's such an awesome character.

Wickets & Wazza

I too get a bit frustrated when Town play towards me first half and have often assumed it was because we lost the toss. So to find out we change round when we win is a bit surprising. Perhaps there is some advantage viz a viz the sun setting, or perhaps there is so little atmosphere at Portman Road these days (Leeds match excepted) it doesn't matter which way they play.
